Overview
Who said you had to sell a kidney to ride Italian? With the MV Agusta Dragster 800 Rosso 2020, the Varese firm opens the door to its world at a less stratospheric price. Listed at 12,990 euros, this Rosso version is neither a limited edition nor a simple badge slapped on a tank. It's the new name for the entry-level model, the one that lets you taste the Italian temperament without going through the RR box and its 140 horsepower billed at top dollar. Less power, cast wheels instead of spoked ones, a few simplified finishes. The compromise has a pragmatic flavor, but the silhouette makes no concessions whatsoever.

Because the real novelty of this MV Agusta Dragster 800 Rosso is precisely its design. Gone is the aging look of the old base Dragster: the Rosso finally inherits the aesthetic treatment debuted on the RR, itself derived from the Brutale 800 redesign. The truncated, almost brutal rear end remains the model's signature. This razor-sharp tail gives the machine a personality that few competitors can claim. Offered exclusively in red dressed in black, it plays the uniqueness card. One single color, streamlined production, and a contained price. The math is simple but effective.
Beneath this enticing bodywork works the 798 cc inline three-cylinder with counter-rotating crankshaft, shared across the entire Rosso range. The 110 horsepower at 11,500 rpm and 83 Nm of torque at 7,600 rpm are more than enough to send the 168 kg dry weight toward a top speed of 237 km/h. The engine weighs just 52 kg, a figure that would make any Japanese competitor turn pale. Against a Triumph Street Triple RS or a Yamaha MT-09, the Dragster doesn't play the raw power card but rather the character card. This Italian triple sings differently, vibrates differently, and the ride-by-wire coupled with the MVICS 2.0 electronic platform offers four riding modes, traction control, an EAS quickshifter, and Bosch 9MP ABS. Plenty to keep your configuration evenings busy.

The chassis follows the Brutale recipe with its steel tubular trellis frame and aluminum plates, a 43 mm Marzocchi inverted fork adjustable in rebound, compression, and preload, and a Sachs rear shock. The single-sided swingarm oscillates beneath a 200 mm tire that contributes to the massive appearance of the rear end. The Brembo brakes with dual 320 mm discs and four-piston radial calipers deliver the necessary bite. The short 1,400 mm wheelbase and the seat perched at 845 mm impose a compact, almost aggressive riding position. The handlebar, adjustable in three positions, allows you to fine-tune the balance between comfort and commitment. With a 16.5-liter tank and a claimed consumption of 5.6 l/100 km, range remains modest. This MV Agusta Dragster 800 Rosso 2020 makes no pretense of devouring highway miles.
Let's be frank: the Dragster remains fundamentally a Brutale whose rear end has been redesigned with an inspired angle grinder. The mechanicals are identical, the chassis nearly twinned, and only the styling and the sportier riding position draw a line between the two models. For the urban rider seeking a machine with bold character, capable of turning every red light into a small event, the Rosso delivers on its promise. It's aimed at those who want the MV Agusta DNA without the RR price tag, even if it means accepting a few concessions on the finishes. An accessible Italian streetfighter, built as much for the eye as for the ride.
