Overview
When the adventure-touring segment turned into a technological arms race, with machines growing ever heavier, more powerful, and packed with electronics, Mandello del Lario chose a different path. The 2024 Moto Guzzi V85 TT doesn't try to compete with a BMW R 1300 GS or a Ducati Multistrada V4. It plays on different ground — that of raw enjoyment and character. And its success proves it right: this mid-size adventure bike single-handedly accounts for over a third of the Italian manufacturer's sales. A figure that speaks volumes about the relevance of the concept.

For the 2024 model year, the Moto Guzzi V85 TT's spec sheet evolves where it truly matters: in the 90° L-twin engine. This air-cooled 853 cc unit, with its two valves per cylinder and pushrods, breathes old school. Yet engineers have grafted on variable valve timing — a bold technical choice for such a traditional powerplant. The system relies on six balls housed in angled ramps that, under centrifugal force, shift the camshaft by 7° beyond 6,500 rpm. The result: 80 hp at 7,750 rpm — a 4 hp improvement — and above all, 83.4 Nm of torque at 5,100 rpm, available earlier in the rev range. From just 3,500 rpm, 90% of the torque is on tap, ready to serve. For an adventure bike weighing 230 kg wet, this low-down generosity is a game-changer in daily riding.
On the styling front, it takes a trained eye to spot the differences. The neo-retro lines remain unchanged, with the signature twin round headlights and the generously shaped 23-litre tank. The updates hide in the details: new headlight brackets, cast aluminium luggage rack and passenger grab handles, and redesigned rocker covers. The colour schemes, however, are markedly more expressive than on previous generations. The real change lies in the ergonomics: a taller, wider windscreen said to reduce aerodynamic pressure by 37%, more enveloping handguards, and a 5-inch colour TFT display replacing the old unit. The seat, perched at 830 mm, remains accessible for most rider builds.

The electronics advance without going overboard. The Moto Guzzi V85 TT gains a six-axis inertial measurement unit that makes the ABS and traction control lean-angle sensitive. Is this essential on an 80 hp adventure bike? Debatable. But it's a welcome safety net, especially in the wet or when transitioning from dirt to tarmac. The four riding modes (Road, Sport, Rain, Off-Road) carry over, though the customisable Custom mode is dropped. On the braking side, the V85 TT retains its excellent Brembo hardware: twin 320 mm front discs gripped by radial four-piston callipers, and a 260 mm rear disc with a two-piston calliper. Bite and progressivity are a genuine benchmark in this class. The steel trellis frame, 41 mm inverted fork, and rear monoshock each deliver 170 mm of travel. Enough for forest tracks and graded trails, not for playing long-distance adventurer on broken-up dirt roads. The shaft drive and six-speed gearbox round out a package built for reliability and low maintenance — a reassuring point for anyone eyeing a used Moto Guzzi V85 TT after a few years of service.

The price of this 2024 V85 TT comes in at 13,499 euros — a notable increase that repositions the bike against its competitors. The Travel version, with its luggage set and GT equipment, climbs higher still. For those seeking a versatile adventure bike without the complexity and weight of the big-bore machines, the V85 TT remains a choice driven by heart as much as by head. It's aimed at the rider who wants Italian character, a living engine between their legs, and a machine capable of tackling roads, cities, and trails without flinching. Not the fastest, not the most technologically advanced. Just the one you want to throw a leg over every morning.
