Overview
Who said an adventure bike had to play the technological arms race card to make its mark? Not Moto Guzzi, that's for sure. With the V85 TT 2022, the Mandello del Lario firm charts its own course, far from the power wars waged by the segment's heavyweights. Where a BMW R 1250 GS crushes all comers with its reputation, and where a Ducati Multistrada or KTM Adventure bank on horsepower and electronics galore, the Moto Guzzi V85 TT plays a different tune. One of character, transalpine charm, a certain art of riding that favors pleasure over lap times. A clever, almost sentimental positioning that earns it a rare level of affection in a saturated market.

On the mechanical side, we find the famous 90-degree transverse V-twin, the brand's historic signature. This 853 cc twin, derived from the V9 engine but extensively reworked, puts out 76 hp at 7,500 rpm and, more importantly, 82 Nm of torque from just 5,000 rpm. The Moto Guzzi V85 TT's spec sheet won't blow anyone away on paper, but the engine character more than makes up for it. With 90% of its torque available from the mid-range thanks to revised camshafts and electronics refined for Euro5 compliance, the pushrod twin with two valves per cylinder pulls hard where it counts: in valleys, on back roads, on corner exits. Titanium intake valves, a compression ratio raised to 10.5:1, a lightened crankshaft — everything has been rethought to deliver liveliness without betraying the Guzzi DNA. A notable distinction in this category against the Tiger 850, F 850 GS, or V-Strom 650: the shaft final drive and its 6-speed gearbox. A daily-use convenience that chain owners eye with envy.
The chassis is built around a steel trellis frame that uses the engine as a stressed member, a classic but effective solution for keeping weight in check. At 209 kg dry, 230 kg wet, the V85 TT sits in the segment average without standing out for its lightness. The 41 mm inverted fork and lateral monoshock, both adjustable for preload and rebound, offer decent suspension travel. The spoked wheels in 19-inch front and 17-inch rear now accept tubeless tires, a welcome evolution for this 2022 model year that considerably broadens the choice of rubber. The Brembo braking setup, with its 4-piston radial calipers up front, doesn't disappoint. The 210 mm ground clearance and standard aluminum skid plate allow for a few off-road excursions, even though this adventure bike remains a road-goer at heart. The 830 mm seat height accommodates most rider builds without difficulty.

On the equipment front, the Moto Guzzi V85 TT has nothing to be ashamed of. The color TFT display centralizes all information, five riding modes (Road, Rain, Off-Road, Sport, and Custom) let you tailor the engine behavior, ABS, and traction control to suit conditions. The standard cruise control is a genuine bonus for touring. Two USB ports, an adjustable windscreen, handguards, and a 23-liter tank promising a range of around 400 km at a consumption rate of 4.9 l/100 km: the Travel version pushes things even further for long-distance riders with its dedicated luggage set. On the used Moto Guzzi V85 TT market, early examples dating back to 2019 can be found at attractive prices, but the model's reliability deserves attention: some teething issues on the first model years have been reported, particularly regarding the electronics and vibrations at certain RPMs. The 2022 model year, a more refined product, retails at 11,999 euros new.

The Moto Guzzi V85 TT doesn't claim to rival the adventure bike blockbusters. It speaks to those looking for something else: character, attitude, an engine that tells a story with every twist of the throttle. Touring riders and weekend cruisers who want to break free from the German-Japanese stranglehold will find here a credible, genuine, and endearing alternative. Not the most powerful, not the lightest, but probably one of the most enjoyable to live with. And in a world of sanitized adventure bikes, that's an argument that carries serious weight.
