Overview
Imagine a Sunday morning on a winding Tuscan road, the sun still low, and this 90° L-twin pulsing between your legs with the regularity of a farmer's heart. The California EV is exactly that: a philosophy before being a motorcycle, an assumed stance that the 251 kilograms on the scale and the 13,490 euros on the order form only accentuate.

The 1064 cc engine is the centerpiece of the Moto Guzzi 1100 California EV that we pass on between initiates. Its 73 horsepower peaks at 6400 rpm and its torque of 92.2 Nm arrives from 5000 rpm, but these figures only tell part of the story. What matters is what you feel in your wrists when the two large cylinders overflow on either side of the tubular double cradle frame and the shaft drive absorbs the jolts with its usual frankness. This V2 betrays its age through certain mechanical aspects, it doesn't hide it, and that's precisely why it fascinates as much as it convinces.
Facing a Honda VTX 1300 or a Yamaha V-Star of the same year, the Moto Guzzi 1100 California EV plays in a different league. Where the Japanese align the kilometers with industrial efficiency, the Californian imposes its rhythm, its characteristic vibrations, its shaft drive that gives that slight push on acceleration. The 780 mm seat remains accessible, the 19-liter tank allows for decent range, and the 200 km/h announced as a top speed are technically accessible, although no one in their right mind buys this machine to chase the limit. That's not its register.
The braking deserves attention: two 320 mm discs with four-piston calipers at the front, a 282 mm disc at the rear. Effective, progressive, up to the task. The 45 mm telescopic fork with 140 mm of travel ensures acceptable comfort on long journeys. It should be noted, however, that the five-speed gearbox calls for patience, even a certain indulgence. It's not sporty in the slightest, which ultimately fits quite well with the spirit of the machine, but can be annoying when coming from a more responsive transmission.

The California EV is aimed at a specific profile: the mature traveler, lover of authentic mechanics, not in a hurry to arrive, very attentive to the journey. It's not a motorcycle for beginners, nor for those seeking an urban all-rounder. It's a machine for connoisseurs, faithful to the long tradition of Mandello del Lario, which has the rare peculiarity of converting new owners into true Guzzisti in just a few hundred kilometers. The captivating engine does its job with disarming constancy.
