Overview

Imagine a 1441 cm3 locomotive, but one that has swallowed an aircraft jet engine. The Kawasaki ZZR 1400 Performance Sport, in its 2018, 2019 or 2020 versions, is not a motorcycle you buy, it’s a pact with excess. With its 202 horsepower from the inline four-cylinder engine, it stands as one of the ultimate expressions of brute power in series production, an hyper-GT that defies common sense. Its secret lies not only in its figures, but in the way it dresses them in factory-grade equipment, transforming an already terrifying missile into a desirable object for purists.

Kawasaki ZZR 1400 Performance Sport

From the catalog, the message is clear. Kawasaki has stopped tinkering and has deployed heavy artillery in series production. The Öhlins TTX39 rear shock absorber, with its piggyback reservoir and twenty-two compression and rebound settings, is no longer an option but the standard. Paired with an adjustable inverted fork in all directions, it gives this 268 kg colossus, fully fueled, an agility that borders on insolence. The braking system, now entrusted to Brembo M50 monobloc radial calipers, is up to the engine's madness. One stops here not a motorcycle, but a force of nature, with a precision and feel that evokes more the track than the highway.

Under the fairing, the ECU has been reworked and the Akrapovic titanium exhaust, also standard, releases the 200 horsepower while complying with Euro 4. A slight loss of torque at low rpm is rumored, but let's admit it, when there’s still more than 158 Nm at 7500 rpm, the debate is purely academic. The rider is seated on a 800 mm high saddle, an accessible figure that masks the size of the beast, and protected by a high screen. The 22-liter tank recalls that this machine is designed to swallow continents, not just to show off at the traffic light.

Facing competitors such as the Suzuki Hayabusa or the BMW S 1000 XR, the ZZR 1400 Performance Sport stands on its ground: absolute devotion to pure speed and supersonic stability. It is not the most versatile, nor the most electronically sophisticated. It is the archetype of the motorcycle that grabs you by the gut, a monument of mechanics that demands respect. Its price, around 19150 euros, is a ticket of entry to a very select club, that of demanding globetrotters and extreme sensation enthusiasts who want the best without compromise. For them, the already painted headstock fairing is just a detail, the promise, however, is immense.
