Overview
There are no changes to report for the Kawasaki KX 450 F. This crosser had already evolved significantly in 2016. Kawasaki trusts it and has given it serious assets for that. Victory is the only goal of Kawasaki in competition, and the last thoroughbred of the KX stable reflects this mindset with its sharp and elegant lines. The KX 450 F is equipped with the latest cutting-edge technologies, while retaining the elements that have made Kawasaki a benchmark brand in off-road for the last 40 years.
With 32 AMA Supercross titles to its credit – a record across all manufacturers – the KX family has more than earned its title of "champion maker." In 2016, the KX 450 F saw a significant weight reduction (3.4 kg) in both the engine and chassis; it announces the lightest cycle-part in its category and a total weight of 108.7 kg. The result is improved bike precision and handling, a slimmer chassis carrying a more powerful engine, reinforcing track capabilities.
Weight reduction is only part of the changes made to Kawasaki’s off-road icon. The engine was studied based on technologies developed for factory riders, such as the high-performance piston with internal crown first introduced on the 2010 KX 450 F production model. Changes to the cylinder block, intake valves, and exhaust pipe have evolved the machine towards even greater performance.
The KX 450 F features the ultimate in electronic technology, such as launch control (start assist), direct injection DFI couplers (plug-and-play), and an ECU adjustable across different maps. These features allow for the best adaptation to the most diverse riding conditions. With the new KX FI injection calibration kit (optional), each rider can obtain the same type of precision in their engine settings as an official Kawasaki team. Furthermore, the ergonomics have been studied to adapt to everyone, notably with a handlebar adjustable in 4 positions and footrests adjustable in 2 positions.
To the ultra-slim and lightweight chassis is added a competition-ready SFF-Air TAC fork, well known for being the key to the KX 450 F’s performance. The large diameter of the tubes (49mm) accentuates the feeling of grip and rigidity, while the very low friction (thanks to the aluminum and titanium composition of the fork) allows for good shock absorption. This high-end suspension allows for precise and easy adjustments.
Oversized petal discs provide great braking power, and the 270 mm diameter front disc also offers a very good feel.
The KX 450 F boasts a minimalist factory bike look. The new design includes a thinner and reoriented radiator, a flatter seat and tank. The seat is seamless allowing the rider to move more easily.
The bike appears more compact thanks to a more aggressive design, but also thanks to its graphics inspired by factory machines. The black fork and green accents immediately identify it as a Kawasaki.
Finally, the lime green alumite coating on the fork adjustment devices, shock, and on some engine parts adds to the KX 450 F an image of high performance. Just as with the choice of color, each rider knows that lime green is the only way to ride.
The KX 450 F proudly stands as a leader in its category with superior performance on paper and on the track. Delivering power and glory, this cross machine will undoubtedly add victories to the KX record next season and offer its riders the most thrilling sensations of their lives.
