Overview
When Indian chooses to resurrect a name, it’s never arbitrary. In 1928, the original Scout 101 was the machine of all excesses: wall of death, hill climbs, dirt track races. A century later, the Indian 101 Scout 2025 claims this heritage without sentimental nostalgia, but with a 1250 cm3 V-twin that delivers 111 horsepower at 7,250 rpm and 111 Nm at 6,300 rpm. It’s the most powerful of the entire Scout family, and it makes sure everyone knows it.

The SpeedPlus engine has been completely reworked compared to the previous 1133 cm3. Redesigned cases, recalibrated injection, refined six-speed gearbox, final transmission by belt. On paper, the figures remain modest compared to a Ducati Diavel V4 or a Harley-Davidson Fat Bob 114, but the mid-range torque provides a frank traction, typical of a well-tempered American twin. The Indian 101 Scout’s displayed price of 18,990 euros places it in a tense competitive zone, facing the Softail Standard or the Triumph Rocket 3 R for raw torque enthusiasts. Indian is playing here on the balance between character and refinement, not on a displacement escalation.
What really changes the nature of this 101 is the work done on the chassis. The frame is tubular steel, a clear break with previous generations in aluminum. The adjustable 41 mm inverted fork sets its markers at the front end, supported by two 320 mm discs without fretting and Brembo M4.32 calipers. These aren't the Stylema or M50 calipers that racers venerate, but these calipers do a solid job, as can be seen on the FTR 1200. At the rear, two piggyback shocks ensure a comfortable-handling compromise acceptable for a 249 kg cruiser. This weight, just so, deserves to be contextualized: the Scout Bobber does better on the scales, and the FTRs remain the most athletic in the range. The Indian 101 Scout test will undoubtedly reveal a more directive machine than its sisters, but no one will mistake it for a 180 kg sportbike.
The electronic equipment deserves to be highlighted. Indian has decided to include as standard what other Scouts reserve for their high-end finishes: a 4-inch circular TFT screen with Ride Command, Bluetooth, three riding modes, traction control, keyless start and cruise control. At 18,990 euros, it’s a coherent proposition. The low seat at 680 mm makes the machine accessible to a wide range of builds, even if the seat height won’t solve everything for the smallest pilots facing the 249 kg to maneuver at a standstill. The 13-liter tank imposes regular refills if you push the machine towards its theoretical 200 km/h.
Aesthetically, the Indian 101 Scout Bobber shares genes with its cousin, but assumes a distinct positioning, somewhere between the hard-boiled club-style and the modern cruiser. Spoked wheels, short rear fender, integral black finish, handlebars risers at 150 mm that place the rider in a position of mastery: the visual message is clear. Indian is targeting the rider who wants a cruiser with a real temperament, without the touring compromises of the Scout Bagger or the quiet wisdom of the Scout Standard. It’s a motorcycle of character more than of pure performance, intended for those seeking an American capable of leaving the straight lines to bite into a winding road, without claiming to rival a European roadster on its turf. The 101 name carries a century of sporting tradition, and this 2025 version proves worthy of it, within the limits imposed by the genre.
