Overview
At the end of the 1990s, Honda decided to stir things up in the very codified world of roadsters. The result is this X-11, a machine that arrives with the physique of a powerhouse and the manners of a sprinter. Its design, massive and angular, ruffled feathers at the time. It’s a far cry from the clean lines of a Yamaha Fazer or a Suzuki Bandit. It’s an aesthetic declaration of war, a block of raw metal shaped for pure efficiency. The dashboard, with its integrated protective screen, is the perfect symbol of this: functional, original, but not really gentle with conventions.

Under this muscular bodywork beats a heart borrowed from the legendary CBR 1100 XX Blackbird, but reworked for low and mid-range performance. Honda sacrificed a few horsepower, bringing the power output to 136 hp, to generously increase torque. And what torque! The 110.8 Nm available from 7000 rpm transforms every throttle opening into a chest thrust. The smoothness of the 4-cylinder is astonishing, but when you demand it, it transforms into a veritable cannonball. The figures speak for themselves: 0 to 100 km/h swallowed in less than 2.5 seconds, a performance that ridiculed many supersports of the era. The perimeter aluminum frame and the 43 mm inverted fork ensure insane stability. In corners, the beast is precise, sharp, with unwavering stability. It is a machine designed to devour winding departmental roads with disconcerting authority.
But this focus on performance comes at a price. With its 222 kg dry weight and a rather generous turning radius, the X-11 is not the queen of the city. It requires strength and anticipation for maneuvering. The riding position, more engaged than on a classic roadster, confirms its sporty inclination. It is clearly not designed for urban chatter. On the other hand, its braking, assisted by the famous Dual-CBS system, is a real treat of power and progressiveness, offering a feeling of safety close to that of an ABS.
Ultimately, the Honda X-11 is a fascinating oddity. It targeted a public of demanding touring riders seeking absolute sporting versatility, but its radical look and ambiguous positioning condemned it to a limited success. Faced with more balanced and conventional competitors, it was shunned. It was perhaps a motorcycle ahead of its time, or simply too extreme for its market. One thing is certain, riding this brute with a well-tempered character remains an intense and unforgettable mechanical experience, that of a motorcycle that refused all compromises.
