Overview
What good is a bagger that doesn't really want to be one? That's the existential question posed by this CMX 1100 Touring. Honda, with its legendary pragmatism, has grafted a Batwing fairing and two saddlebags onto its large custom, but without ever wanting to imitate American behemoths. The result is a motorcycle at €12,699 that plays its own tune, between a distinct cruiser style and modern equipment, without ever claiming to be for long journeys.

Beneath this little Harley look beats a truly Japanese heart. The 1084 cm³ parallel-twin cylinder, offset at 270°, is a transposition of the Africa Twin engine, reworked for the road. With 88.4 horsepower and 98 Nm of torque available from 4750 rpm, it doesn't have the growl of a V-twin, but it provides smooth and linear propulsion. The DCT gearbox, now the sole transmission, is the surprise asset. Its automatic piloting blends perfectly with the cruising spirit, while manual mode allows you to keep your hand on the controls. It's technology that stands out in this segment, but it works with disarming efficiency.
The real difference comes from the equipment. Faced with the analog gauges of the competition, Honda installs a 5-inch color TFT screen, connected, and a complete electronic suite with cruise control, riding modes and traction control. For the rider who wants to rack up miles on weekends, it's a real plus. But the saddlebags, with capacities of 19 and 16 liters, quickly remind you of the limits of the concept. We are far from the 40 liters of a Street Glide; here, you can store a light jacket and an open-face helmet, not the gear for a transcontinental trip. The fairing protection is symbolic, just enough to deflect some air pressure.
On the road, its philosophy is confirmed. With a wet weight of 250 kg and a seat height of 71 cm, it is surprisingly accessible. The chassis, very traditional, offers reassuring stability but quickly limited lean angles due to the footpegs. The 43 mm fork and the brakes, with a single radial disc at the front, are sufficient for relaxed riding, but do not invite sporty riding. It is a machine for smoothly devouring national roads, not for attacking mountain passes.
So, who is this for? Certainly not for the pure globetrotter, who will prefer a true GT or a more spacious bagger. The CMX 1100 Touring targets the customizer who wants a little more comfort and technology without switching to American enormity, both in size and budget. It is a hybrid object, elegant and well-finished, which benefits from Honda's reliable heritage. It doesn't revolutionize anything, but it occupies a clever niche: that of a bagger for those who don't need to go around the world, just enjoy the road on Sunday.
