Overview
Can a Harley-Davidson really be a touring motorcycle? At the turn of the 2000s, the Dyna division answered yes with the FXDXT T-Sport, a bold proposition that grafts a traveler's soul onto the lively chassis of the Super Glide Sport. This is far from an ultra-equipped flagship; here, the recipe is simple, almost artisanal: a comfortable seat, an adjustable windscreen, and two waterproof soft bags. The idea is not to revolutionize everything, but to offer a lively custom the means to escape.

Because the heart of the beast remains the famous Twin Cam 88B of 1450 cm3, a V2 that delivers 68 horsepower and, above all, a massive torque of 106 Nm available from 2900 rpm. On the road, it is this generosity at low speed that is captivating. The engine responds instantly to the throttle, propelling the 315 kilograms dry weight with a quiet authority, even if the speedometer tops out around 170 km/h. The belt drive is supple, the five-speed gearbox is precise for a Harley, and the whole thing breathes reassuring robustness. This engine is an ideal road companion, tireless and charismatic.
The cycle part, inherited from the Super Glide Sport, brings a serious increase in agility compared to a Softail. The wheelbase of 1580 mm and the correct ground clearance allow you to confidently enter corners, even if the weight and suspension with limited travel quickly remind you of the limits of the genre. You don't dance like on a Japanese sportbike, but you ride with a sincere pleasure, wrapped and fluid. The braking, with its two front discs gripped by four-piston calipers, is sufficient to calm the momentum without disappointing.
But is the T-Sport a great traveler after all? The bags, although waterproof and practical, have a limited volume. The adjustable windscreen is effective against the weather, but its aesthetics can divide. And you have to deal with typical Harley details: a kickstand that is not always convenient, gauges that are a little too discreet, an 18.5-liter tank that requires regular stops. It is an old-fashioned road-trip motorcycle, for those who prioritize feeling over absolute comfort.
Ultimately, the Dyna T-Sport will appeal to the traveler charmed by an authentic custom, the one who wants to devour miles without renouncing the growl of the V-Twin and the raw style of a Harley. It has neither the luxury of a Gold Wing nor the versatility of an adventure bike, but it possesses a rare personality, halfway between a sporty ride and an escape. A successful bet, for an era when motorcycles still had the taste of gasoline and character.
