Overview
So, one wonders if a Harley-Davidson can truly be a compromise between the opulence of an Electra Glide and the raw feel of a Road King? In 2007, the Street Glide FLHX attempted the gamble. With its 338 kilograms dry weight and its Twin Cam 96 1584 cm3 V-twin engine, it positions itself as the streamlined touring model in the Touring range. We removed the top case, simplified the headlight, and reduced the profile. The result? A more assertive silhouette, less pachydermic, which focuses entirely on custom aesthetics and a certain idea of uninhibited travel.

Beneath the appearance of a refined custom, it does not forget its primary mission: to devour asphalt. The engine, with its 71 horsepower and, above all, its 125.5 Nm of torque available from 3500 rpm, is a real improvement over the old 88. It breathes better, pulls with more authority, and gives the impression of relieving the imposing mass of the machine. The six-speed gearbox, although still characteristic of the brand, allows you to find a quiet cruising speed on the highway. But don't be fooled, with an 18.9-liter fuel tank and a seat height of 668 mm, we are here in the realm of American grand touring, light version.
The equipment, for its part, strikes like a banner of comfort. The console on the fuel tank is a real chrome control tower, with its complete instruments and, above all, the Harman Kardon audio system installation. This is where the paradox of the beast lies: it displays a minimalist custom style, but it is full of technologies for the touring rider. The rigid saddlebags are practical, but the braking system, with its two 292 mm front discs, requires generous anticipation. At the time, it would take until 2008 to have 300 mm discs and ABS in 2009. A weak point for a motorcycle of this size and price, approaching 22,300 euros new.
On the road, the philosophy is clear: it's cruising. The chassis, with its double cradle frame, is designed for straight-line stability. In corners, the footpegs touch quickly, and the 352 kg when fully fueled reminds you of its presence. It is not made for sport, but to devour kilometers in a bubble of relaxation. A notable change will come later with the revised chassis and the 17-inch front wheel, but this 2007 version already embodies the spirit of a majestic ride.
Ultimately, the 2007 Street Glide will seduce the rider seeking a Harley-Davidson touring model less cumbersome than the Electra Glide Ultra, but refusing to sacrifice comfort and style. It is a motorcycle for those who want to travel with a custom aura, listening to the V-Twin rumble and the stereo sing, without claiming sportiness. An excellent choice for the elegant touring rider, provided you accept its dynamic limitations and its fuel consumption under demanding riding conditions. An icon of uninhibited touring, which has known how to chart its course.
