Overview
Looking for a large American touring bike, but the Electra Glide Ultra Classic seems too loaded, too “bus”? The 2006 Street Glide might be your answer. Harley-Davidson took the Electra, removed the top case and triple headlight, and created this more streamlined machine. You immediately recognize the Glide silhouette, but with a thinner seat and a more compact windscreen. The idea is clear: keep the essence of long-distance travel, but in a less monumental format, more agile on the road.

Technically, it doesn't break with the family. The large Twin Cam 88 of 1442 cc is there, delivering its 67 horsepower and especially its torque of 116 Nm from 3500 rpm, a typical characteristic of these engines that pull without forcing. The double cradle frame supports a mass of 352 kg fully fueled, a weight that commands respect from the first start. But the equipment remains worthy of a grand touring bike: rigid saddlebags, oil-pneumatic suspensions, and especially this famous console on the tank overflowing with instruments. The highlight is the Harman Kardon audio installation, an invitation to ride in music on the highway.
The riding experience? It's pure cruising. The V2 engine is a peaceful road companion, the belt drive is silent, and the 668 mm high seat is comfortable for long hours. But with this weight and this 119 mm ground clearance, you don't play in tight corners. The five-speed gearbox requires patience, and the dynamics are those of a safe and stable ship, not a sportbike. Top speed is around 160 km/h; it's not a performance machine, but a travel machine. Fuel consumption of 5.34 liters per 100 km is even reasonable for such a displacement.
Compared to a more classic Road King or an Electra Glide Standard, the Street Glide positions itself as the "modernized" and slightly stripped-down version. Its audience is the traveler who wants the comfort and equipment of a large Harley, without the ultra-loaded look. At 22355 euros at the time, it offered a credible alternative. Today, it remains a cult model for those seeking an American touring bike with a less imposing but still authentic character. It's a machine for savoring the road, not for dominating it.
