Overview
Are you looking for a motorcycle that allows you to cross a continent without even getting off the saddle? A machine where comfort isn't a compromise but a religion, and where image is part of the journey? Then the Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Limited, especially in its post-2014 versions, is probably what you have in mind. It's not a motorcycle, it's a system, a complete travel platform where every detail has been refined to transform wandering into a frictionless experience.

At the heart of it all remains this monumental 1688 cm3 V2, but the Rushmore generation, launched in 2014, gave it a crucial rejuvenation. Harley introduced partial liquid cooling, a real feat of engineering to maintain the traditional appearance while the cylinder heads benefit from a discreet water circuit. The result? This Twin Cam 103 High Output delivers a torque of 138 Nm at 3750 rpm, a palpable improvement that reduces heat in the city and offers a more responsive feel. Power reaches 86 horsepower, sufficient to move this ensemble of over 400 kg with authority, even if the top speed remains wisely around 170 km/h. Compared to European touring bikes, it's a different philosophy: here, the priority is sensation, regularity, the unwavering rumble, not raw numbers. For a test ride of the Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Limited 2014 or 2019, it is this transformation of the engine that marks the most.
But Rushmore was only a refinement of the vehicle as a whole. The Batwing fairing has been reworked to better manage airflow, the Boom Box audio system with touchscreen and integrated GPS replaces the old radio-CD, and the controls are centralized on the handlebar. Passenger comfort has been particularly well cared for, with a wider seat, a redesigned backrest, and adjustable armrests. On the chassis side, lighter wheels, a 49 mm fork, and especially the Reflex linked braking system with ABS bring a welcome touch of modernity to the ride. Daymaker LED lighting provides visibility and a contemporary style. All this for a price that, even at nearly 28,000 euros new, finds its audience among touring riders seeking the ultimate touring machine, prioritizing atmosphere and complete equipment over sportiness.
This is where some people find fault. Faced with a BMW K 1600 GTL or a Honda Gold Wing, the Electra Glide Ultra Limited seems archaic in its mechanics and its colossal weight. But it responds to a different demand: that of the Harley purist, the traveler who wants the symbol as much as the function. Its weight of 413 kg fully fueled requires a certain mastery, especially at low speed, but on the road, it stabilizes with surprising grace. The announced consumption of 5.6 L/100 km is respectable for such a mass.
Who is it for? For those who see travel as a ritual, where the sound of the engine, the image of the machine, and the feeling of being part of a legend are inseparable from the journey. More recent versions, such as the Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Limited 114 with its Milwaukee-Eight engine, have continued this evolution. Finding a used Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Limited, perhaps a 2015, 2017, or 2018, is a smart way to access this liner without paying the high price of new. It is a motorcycle that does not seek to be the best technically, but to be the most complete in the experience it offers. And in that area, despite its flaws, it remains an absolute reference.
