Overview

Who said a motorcycle must necessarily be light and nimble to deliver sensations? In 2010, Harley-Davidson answers this question with the CVO Street Glide, a rolling object that fully embraces its philosophy: the road as a throne, the engine as a declaration. It’s not a motorcycle, it’s an institution on two wheels, built around the legendary Screamin’ Eagle 110.

Harley-Davidson CVO 1800 STREET GLIDE FLHXSE

This 45-degree V-twin, with its 1803 cm3 displacement, doesn’t speak in horsepower but in authority. With 148 Nm of torque available from 3750 rpm, it pulls like a luxury tractor, transforming each acceleration into a wave of linear and unstoppable force. Forget stratospheric revs; here, power is measured by the torsion of the spine. This engine, housed in a steel double cradle frame, moves a considerable mass of 385 kg at full weight, a weight that is felt at low speed but transforms into oceanic stability once launched on the highway.

The CVO version, an acronym for Custom Vehicle Operations, clearly plays the appearance card. The Street Glide is literally dressed in chrome, from the handlebars to the fork covers, including the delicate leather inserts on the custom seat. It’s an assumed style exercise, where every detail, from the saddlebag straps to the license plate cover, proclaims its belonging to a lineage. The equipment follows the logic of a luxury liner: ABS, cruise control, and even a Harman Kardon audio system to accompany the rumble of the V-Twin with a stereo soundtrack.

Who is this monument for? Certainly not for the rider seeking thrills in hairpin turns. The target audience is the experienced touring rider, for whom travel is a ritual and the motorcycle an extension of their style. For a price of around 32,000 euros at the time, one bought much more than a means of transport: a status, a rolling culture, and a unique riding experience, made of presence and character at every turn of the wheel. Faced with its often more technological and agile Japanese or European custom competitors, the CVO Street Glide remains unmatched in its art of transforming asphalt into a stage.
