Overview
So, do you acquire a work of art or a motorcycle? With the 2015 CVO Softail Deluxe, the boundary is deliberately blurred. Milwaukee delivers here a blatant statement, a machine where every bolt seems polished for the pleasure of the eye before fulfilling its mechanical function. It is the pinnacle of Harley craftsmanship of the time, a motorcycle that does not seek discretion but fully embraces its role as a desirable object, at a price that borders on €30,000. For that price, you are not buying a simple means of transportation, you are acquiring a piece of American mythology on two wheels.

The eye is immediately drawn in by this symphony of chrome and Art Deco paintwork. The nine-spoke wheels, the white tire sidewalls, the hand-stitched leather of the seats and saddlebags… it’s a festival of meticulously crafted details. The transformation is even part of the program: with a few gestures, you can strip the beast of its windshield, backrest and saddlebags to go from elegant grand touring to uninhibited cruiser. It’s theater on two wheels, where the accessory is an integral part of the show. The Hiawatha nacelle houses a Daymaker LED headlight of rare expressiveness, while technologies such as keyless Smart start and cruise control are integrated with a discretion that contrasts with the general exuberance.
But beneath this finery lies the true reason for being of a CVO model: the engine. The legendary Twin Cam 110, boosted to 1803 cm³, is here the beating heart of the machine. With its 142 Nm of torque available from 2750 rpm, it doesn't move the asphalt, it caresses it with a quiet authority. The sensation is one of an uninterrupted flow of power, more than of liveliness. At 356 kg fully fueled, the Deluxe is not an athlete, and its 98 horsepower barely suffice to propel it to 170 km/h. The philosophy is elsewhere: to savor the characteristic vibrations of the V-twin, that deep rumble which is the true soundtrack of the ride.
On the road, the Softail chassis, with its concealed shock absorbers, maintains a perfect line but imposes its limits. The ride is serene, stable in a straight line, but the weight is felt in tight corners. The braking, revised in 2015 with a 300 mm front disc, is correct without being sporty, in the image of the motorcycle: it stops with a certain solemnity. A seat height of 655 mm makes the beast accessible, but its size and turning radius destine it for open roads, not alpine passes.
Ultimately, this CVO Softail Deluxe is aimed at a very specific audience: the wealthy aesthete for whom the motorcycle is a sensory and social experience before being a performance tool. Faced with an Indian Chief Vintage, more authentically retro, or a Honda Gold Wing, much more technically advanced, Harley bets everything on emotion and status. It is imperfect, expensive, and deliberately archaic in certain aspects. But for those seeking to own a symbol, a rolling collector's item where every detail tells a story, it remains an almost irresistible object of desire. It is a machine for creating dreams, provided you accept the Faustian pact: form is often more important than substance.
