Overview
Want a Panigale V4 but your budget or your sense of reality tells you to stop? The Panigale V2 Bayliss Anniversary, on the other hand, responds "and why not me?". This machine, which celebrates Troy Bayliss's first world title in 2001, is a fascinating exercise in style. It proves that a replica is not just a sticker on the tank, but a genuine technical and sentimental argument. For around €21,490, it positions itself as a desirable object for those seeking an Italian sportbike with pedigree, without necessarily wanting the furious madness of a V4.

At the heart of it all is the 955 cm³ Superquadro V2 engine, an engine that is nothing like a compromise. With 155 horsepower at 10,750 rpm and a torque of 104 Nm, it offers a liveliness that sits right between a Yamaha R9 and a more radical Japanese sportbike. It's a meaty mechanical component, speaking with a deep and authoritative voice, typical of Ducati twins. The power of the Ducati Panigale V2 Bayliss Anniversary is therefore very real, and it translates into frank accelerations where the engine, rather than pure speed, takes over. You may not reach the theoretical top speed of 270 km/h as easily as with an inline-four, but every exit from a corner becomes a sonic and physical event.
What distinguishes this Bayliss edition from the standard model, beyond the sublime red, white livery and the number 21, is the high-end equipment. Öhlins is involved, with a 43 mm NIX fork and a TTX mono shock absorber, offering a chassis of 197 kg fully fueled that becomes surgically precise. Brembo brakes, Cornering ABS, the Up&Down shifter and the three riding modes complete a package that is already very complete on the base V2. You even lose 3 kg thanks to the removal of passenger elements and a lithium battery. It is a motorcycle that clearly wants to seduce the amateur track rider or the sporty touring rider looking for a machine with character, more accessible and less intimidating than a V4.
The price of a used Ducati Panigale V2 Bayliss is starting to become interesting for enthusiasts, as this series was numbered but not limited. However, finding a complete technical specification and a well-preserved example takes patience. It remains a niche, a vibrant tribute to an era when twins dominated World Superbike. Compared to a BMW M 1000 RR or an Aprilia RSV4 Factory, it plays on a different register: less brute power, but more charm, history and physical engagement. Its 17-liter tank and consumption of around 6L/100km recall that it can also do some road trips, if your back accepts the 835 mm seat.
Ultimately, this Panigale V2 Bayliss is a success. It is not the most high-performing sportbike on the market, but it is undoubtedly one of the most moving. Ducati has managed to transform a "entry-level" model in the Panigale family into an almost collectible object, without sacrificing its dynamic capabilities. For the Bayliss fan, the nostalgic for twins or simply the motorcyclist who wants a sportbike with a real history, it represents a very strong choice. It says that passion, sometimes, is measured less in horsepower than in colors and memories inscribed on a fork tube.
