Overview

How do you make a sport motorcycle even sportier? Ducati found the answer with the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak, a machine that takes the sporty trail concept to its ultimate consequences. This is not merely an aesthetic variation, but a clear reorientation of the model's philosophy. With its 170 horsepower delivered by the Granturismo V4 and a declared weight of 227 kg fully fueled, it positions itself as a high-riding hypermotard, a track animal that isn't afraid of asphalt.

Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak 1160

The base remains that of the Multistrada V4 S, but the transformation is profound. The 17-inch forged aluminum Marchesini rims and Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tires, in dimensions 120/70 at the front and 190/55 at the rear, clearly signal the intention. The handlebars are lower and narrower, the footpegs are repositioned to offer more ground clearance, and the rear monobrac, a nod to the 916, completes this aggressive and focused silhouette. The chassis is recalibrated for attack, far from the touring spirit of the other Multistradas.

The heart of this metamorphosis lies in its suspension equipment. The 48 mm Öhlins inverted fork and the TTX36 mono-shock, both piloted by the SMART EC 2.0 platform, are reprogrammed here. Ducati promises firmer and sportier management, paradoxically more comfortable on touring rides thanks to the new independence between the choice of damper profile and the riding mode. You can thus mix a Touring mode with a Dynamic suspension setting, a welcome freedom. The braking system, with its 330 mm Brembo discs at the front and Stylema calipers, delivers power that requires no compromise.

The electronics are a festival, almost intimidating. The Ducati Vehicle Observer function, simulating 70 sensors, feeds the traction control, wheelie and cornering ABS systems. Engine braking management now offers three levels, and combined braking is integrated. The five riding modes, including the new Wet mode, allow you to adapt the motorcycle to all terrains, from the track to the slippery road. Adaptive cruise control and radar, standard here, add a layer of sophistication and safety. All of this is controlled via a 6.5-inch TFT screen, clear and complete.

But who is really the driver of this Pikes Peak? It’s no longer the adventurer seeking a compromise, but the pure sports enthusiast who wants a tall motorcycle, agile and brutal. It dialogues directly with machines like the KTM 1290 Super Duke R or certain versions of the BMW S 1000 R, but with this 840 mm seat height and this posture that dominates the road. Its price of 32,790 euros places it in a very exclusive segment, reserved for those who see every journey as an opportunity for performance. The Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak is not an evolution, it is a statement. It proves that Ducati can make a trail even faster and more precise, at the risk of sacrificing part of its universality. For the enthusiast looking for the ultimate sport motorcycle, without the constraints of a hunched position, it represents a fascinating culmination.
