Overview
For years, the only serious criticism leveled at the Multistrada family revolved around one figure: the price. The 1200 imposed its size, its 160 horsepower, and its corresponding bill. Ducati understood the message. The Ducati Multistrada 950, launched in 2017, changes the game without betraying the spirit of the lineage.

Visually, the mimicry is almost unsettling. The general shapes, the aggressive prow, the characteristic front beak: everything recalls the big sister. But upon approaching the motorcycle, the compromises become apparent. There’s no monoplace swingarm, no LED headlights as standard, a seat fixed at 840 mm without height adjustment possible, and some plastics treated with less care than on the 1200. These are assumed concessions to keep the displayed €14,190, approximately €4,000 less than the higher version. For this price, you inherit a 19-inch front wheel, a 170/60 rear tire, a 48 mm fully adjustable KYB inverted fork, and a Sachs rear shock absorber equally configurable. The trellis steel frame, a signature feature, encloses the whole with the usual rigor. It’s Ducati to the core.
The engine deserves attention. This isn't a reduced 1200; the 937 cc twin comes from the Hypermotard lineage, and is also found on the SuperSport. Its 11-degree Testastretta architecture, 4 valves per cylinder, desmodromic distribution, and 53 mm injection give it a character of its own. On the Ducati Multistrada 950 technical specifications, the figures speak for themselves: 113 horsepower at 9,000 rpm, 96.2 Nm of torque at 7,750 rpm, for 229 kg fully fueled. Facing a V-Strom 1000 or a Versys 1000, the 950 holds its own; it also looks in the eyes of the CrossTourer and doesn't give much away from the GS 1200 on secondary roads. The announced maximum speed of 200 km/h remains a theoretical figure, but the traction pleasure is very real from the first few feet of travel.
What truly transforms the Ducati Multistrada 950 into a versatile machine is the electronic management. Four riding modes affect throttle response, traction control DTC, and ABS. Touring delivers the 113 horsepower with maximum progressiveness. Sport gives a crisp response and lightens electronic interventions. Urban limits power to 75 horsepower with reinforced assistance for the city. Enduro retains these 75 horsepower while reducing ABS to a minimum to let the wheels express themselves on trails. It’s precise, effective, and gives the motorcycle a real modularity according to use. Ducati Multistrada 950 accessories further enrich the catalog: Touring pack with 56-liter side cases and center stand, Enduro pack with reinforced protections and LED lights, Sport pack with Termignoni titanium homologated exhaust. Enough to build your motorcycle around your real needs.
The result is a coherent machine, perhaps even the most balanced in the family. Those looking for a Ducati Multistrada 950 used will find reasonable prices on the used market, especially since the S version has taken over. Ducati Multistrada 950 reliability generally lives up to its promises, provided maintenance intervals are respected, particularly the desmodromic maintenance. It’s not a motorcycle for inexperienced riders, but someone with a few years in the saddle will quickly feel comfortable. The Ducati Multistrada 950 new price at €14,190 positions it in the big leagues without requiring the budget of a 1200. It’s exactly what Ducati was trying to build. And it works.
