Overview
What’s the recipe for the ultimate roadster? Take the original concept of the Ducati Monster, that mechanical purity reduced to the essentials, and inject it with the SP family’s racing DNA. The result is this 2024 Monster SP, a machine that no longer just looks good on the terrace. It clearly targets your wallet and the inner racer lurking within.

Beneath its streamlined appearance lies a genuine diet and muscle-building program. The Testastretta 937 cm3 engine, already a marvel of responsiveness, is equipped with a double Termignoni exhaust made of titanium and carbon fiber. The 111 horsepower and 93.2 Nm of torque gain bite and sound, without transforming the beast into a cylinder capacity devourer. For those who find the sauce still too light, you’ll need to turn to a Streetfighter V2, heavier and more expensive, because here, the philosophy is different. The real revolution lies in the chassis. Farewell to the standard Kayaba fork, make way for a fully adjustable Öhlins NIX 30 fork, accompanied by a single shock absorber from the same brand. Wheel travel increases by 10 mm, ground clearance improves, and the feeling of precision reaches a level that slaps you in the face. Coupled with Brembo Stylema brakes and Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tires, the dynamic package of this 2023 Monster SP makes you forget the absence of the mythical trellis frame.
But this sportiness comes at a cost, and not just financially. With a price approaching €15,100, the question arises: what are you really paying for? The announced weight loss is a little disappointing: despite the lithium battery, the light calipers, and the Öhlins fork, the scale shows only 2 kg less than the standard model, or 186 kg fully fueled. And on a roadster that is supposed to be the very essence of simplicity, the absence of Bluetooth connectivity as standard on the 4.3-inch TFT screen is a bit of a sting. The electronics, on the other hand, are top-notch, with finely tuned riding modes (Sport, Road, Rain) and a plethora of riding aids, including cornering ABS and anti-wheelie.
So, who is the hunter, and who is the prey? The test of the Ducati Monster SP reveals an ambiguous and fascinating machine. It is too radical, too firm, and too expensive for the simple Sunday rider. But for the demanding rider looking for the aggressiveness of a racing roadster, capable of transforming their daily commute into a track session, it becomes an obvious choice. It’s a motorcycle for initiates, a “Monster Hunter” for those who want to scrape the asphalt without the drawbacks of a supersport. A blunt opinion? Perhaps. But in this segment, you either play the versatility card or you embrace pure sportiness. The SP has chosen its camp, with brilliance and a certain cynical commercialism. The opportunity to find a used 2023 Monster SP could be the right compromise to taste this madness without completely ruining yourself.
