Overview
Do you remember that feeling, when the first Monster 900 was released and turned everything upside down like an aesthetic cataclysm? It was too radical, too raw for some. So Ducati, as a strategist, released the 600, then this 750, a middle ground appearing in 2000 and which found its audience until 2002. The idea was simple: to offer the essence of the myth, the famous 90° V2, without the intimidation of a large displacement. And on paper, the gamble was successful. With its 64 horsepower at 8750 rpm and its 62 Nm of torque, this Ducati Monster 750 skillfully positions itself between the small and the large. It is much more lively than the 600, and its carbureted engine, less lazy at low rpm than that of the 900, gives the impression of a more agile motorcycle in the city.

The technical specifications of this 2002 Ducati Monster 750 are a clever blend. It inherits the iconic trellis frame, the 43 mm inverted fork and, a stroke of genius, the Brembo double front disc brakes from its big sister. This is far from a hastily restricted version. The dry weight of 179 kg gives it first-rate handling. The 770 mm seat is accessible, and the riding position, typical of naked bikes of the era, is perfect for devouring departmental roads. It is there, between 4000 and 7000 rpm, that the twin cylinder delivers its raw growl and its usable torque, making each outing a small event. For a road test of the Ducati Monster 750 on a winding road, it is a real revelation.
However, we must address the elephant in the room. This 748 cc engine, with a compression ratio of 9.1:1, is not a lightning bolt. At highway speed, the lack of power is felt, and the wind buffets you. It does not easily reach 200 km/h. But let's admit it, who buys a carbureted Monster 750 to do straight lines? Its real flaw, inherited from the family, remains a rather basic suspension that shows its limits on degraded roads. The single shock absorber takes a beating.
So, to whom is it aimed today, on the used market? Clearly, to the rider looking for an authentic first Ducati, without the complexity or price of a modern version. It is a perfect A2 motorcycle after restriction, offering an unparalleled character. It is also a dream base for a cafe racer project, with this trellis frame that lends itself to all customizations. The dark versions, more understated, also have their charm. Compared to a Japanese competitor of the time, it gives fewer numbers but a hundred times more emotion.
Ultimately, the 2001 or 2002 Ducati Monster 750 is not the most powerful, nor the most technically advanced. But it captures the soul of the brand with a rare accessibility. It grabs you by the gut with its growling V2, seduces you with its timeless look, and reminds you that motorcycle pleasure is rarely measured on the speedometer. It is a piece of history, raw and unrefined, that opened the doors of Bologna to a whole generation. A Ducati Monster 750 review can only be positive for anyone seeking pure sensation, even twenty years later.
