Overview
When Ducati decides to put its Hypermotard through the centrifuge, the SP version results. Not a simple cosmetic update, not a pack of exclusive colors sold at a premium price: a complete technical overhaul oriented towards a single objective, barely concealed behind the homologation paperwork. This 821 cm3 V-twin engine that spits out 110 horsepower at 9,250 rpm and 89 Nm at 7,750 rpm only asks for one thing: clear tarmac and, ideally, a paddock as a garage.

The difference with the standard Hypermotard begins in the rolling chassis. Exit the 43 mm Kayaba fork without adjustments, place for a pressurized 50 mm Marzocchi fully adjustable, with 15 mm of additional travel. The Sachs shock also gives way to an Öhlins, richer in adjustments and 25 mm of stroke more. This is not refinement for the catalog, it is the difference between a motorcycle that supports the track and a motorcycle that demands it. Forged aluminum Marchesini rims contribute to the overall weight reduction: 2 kilos gained on unsprung masses, which is immediately felt in changes of support. At 171 kg dry, the Ducati Hypermotard SP is 4 kilos lighter than its ordinary sister, a gap that counts on a wheelbase as short as 1,500 mm, and as sharp in steering.
The electronics follow the same logic of escalation. Three riding modes structure the experience: Race lets the 110 horses express themselves without filter or almost, with traction control reduced to the bare minimum and ABS limited to the front wheel, which means that the rider fully assumes the rear wheel lift during braking. Sport offers a more balanced dosage, still the 110 hp but with electronic interventions calibrated for the road. Wet reduces power to 75 hp and activates all safeguards to ride without anxiety in the rain. This trio is nothing original in itself, KTM and Aprilia play in the same register with their high-end supermotards, but Ducati's execution remains consistent and well differentiated between modes.
The rest of the €14,890 price tag reads like an inventory of racing parts dressed for the road. Variable section aluminum handlebar, radial master cylinder with five adjustment positions, ground clearance raised to 413 mm, Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP as original fitment, carbon on the front mudguard and belt covers, magnesium for the valve covers. Each component justifies its existence by a measurable benefit, not by a list effect. The high seat of 890 mm deserves a particular mention, however: at this height, only large sizes pass without accessory, but Ducati offers a lowered seat of 20 mm for intermediate sizes.

The used Ducati Hypermotard SP is regularly found on the market at prices that remain sustained, a sign that the motorcycle ages well and retains its followers. For those looking how much a new or used Ducati Hypermotard SP costs, it is necessary to integrate that the level of equipment justifies the premium compared to the base version. This motorcycle is not for beginners or motorcyclists looking for an all-purpose supermotard for urban daily use. It assumes a solid practice, an active riding posture and a real appetite for precise trajectories. Giving your full potential to such a machine requires commitment, but for those who understand this language, the reward is worth the ticket price.
