Overview
Celebrating 90 years of existence with a series limited to 500 numbered copies, is precisely the kind of gesture that only Bologna knows how to transform into a global event. In 2016, during the World Ducati Week, the Italian house unveiled this 1299 Panigale S Anniversario dressed in white and red, a livery directly inherited from Superbike and MotoGP paddocks. The result is a machine that fascinates as much in a garage as on a circuit, and whose price on the used Ducati 1299 Panigale S Anniversario market continues to climb since its release.

Before even talking about figures, one must pause to consider the visible mechanics, those that are presented as a sculpture. The 43 mm Öhlins NIX30 inverted fork coexists with the lateral TTX36 shock absorber, both with electronic management. Brembo M50 Evo calipers bite 330 mm discs, the forged Marchesini rims are anodized gold, and the Akrapovic outlets follow the same copper hue. A few carbon fiber parts, a lithium battery, and the dry weight falls to 164 kg, just 2 kg more than the Panigale R. The 1299 Panigale S Anniversario is so striking in the details that Pocher even proposed a 1/4 scale replica kit, the famous Pocher 1/4 Ducati 1299 Panigale S Anniversario, proof that the motorcycle transcends the simple sports category to become a collectible object in its own right. This 1:4 scale die-cast kit of the Ducati 1299 Panigale S Anniversario remains highly sought after by collectors who cannot or do not want to ride the original.
Under the fairing, the 1285 cc Superquadro L-twin has not moved a cubic centimeter. It still delivers 205 horsepower at 10,500 rpm and 144.6 Nm at 8,750 rpm, with a generous bore of 116 mm for a short stroke of 60.8 mm, a geometry that explains this abrupt, almost nervous character at low rpm but devastating once the redline is approached. The real novelty lies in the DTC Evo, a traction control system redesigned around new algorithms. This now intervenes on the throttle butterflies in addition to the ignition advance and injection, and offers in mode 1 a freer rear slip than on the previous generation. It is a concrete improvement, measurable on the track, not a cosmetic update of the technical specifications.
Facing a BMW S 1000 RR of the same era or an Aprilia RSV4 RF, this Anniversario Panigale doesn't really play the same game. The German and Italian alternatives are more universal, more accessible to a rider of intermediate level. The Ducati, on the other hand, deliberately targets experienced riders, those who know how to manage 205 horsepower in 164 kg, and collectors looking for a numbered piece with a clear history. The seat height of 830 mm and the character of the Superquadro naturally keep beginners out of the picture. At an original price of 29,890 euros, it has never pretended to aim wide, and it is precisely this assumed positioning that makes it today a reference on the used market.

Production limited to 500 units, each stamped with a serial number on the open fork leg, guarantees a rarity that will not diminish with time. Whether you are tempted by the 1:4 Ducati 1299 Panigale S Anniversario for display or by the motorcycle itself to take it to the track, the consistency is total: this machine was designed from the start to be looked at as much as ridden. It is both its greatest quality and its only flaw, that of a sports car so precious that one hesitates to expose it to the first rain.
