Overview

Sixty-three units for France, perhaps. Waiting lists closed before the motorcycle was even officially presented. A price of 85,000 euros that lands like the slam of a vault door. The 2025 Panigale V4 Tricolore Italia is not a motorcycle you buy — it's a motorcycle you contemplate, you hope for, you dream of encountering one day on a circuit in the hands of a lucky owner who probably no longer knows what to do with his money. And frankly, you can't blame him.

Because behind the collector's item lies engineering that deserves closer attention. The 1103 cc V4 in Twin Pulse configuration delivers 216 horsepower at 13,500 rpm and 120.6 Nm of torque at 11,250 rpm, housed in an aluminium semi-perimeter frame with a wet weight of 188 kg. This is the Panigale V4 S taken to its absolute peak — a track-bred machine born for tight corners and late braking, whose claimed top speed of 300 km/h is not a marketing figure but a reality that the long straights of Monza or Mugello confirm without question.

What sets the Tricolore Italia apart from the standard V4 S is a list of equipment that would make many prototypes blush. The carbon fibre wheels shed 950 grams compared to the standard forged rims, with a reduction in moment of inertia of 12% at the front and 19% at the rear. On track, this gain translates directly into quicker direction changes and more precise behaviour under acceleration out of corners. These are not abstract figures — they are hundredths of a second per lap. More impressive still, this version debuts the Front Brake Pro+ system as a world first, featuring two Brembo T-Drive finned discs measuring 338.5 mm in diameter and 6.2 mm in thickness, GP4 Sport Production calipers machined from billet, and an MCS 19.21 pump with remote lever adjustment — identical to what the factory riders use in Superbike competition. The Öhlins NPX 25/30 pressurised 43 mm front forks and the TTX36 rear monoshock complete a technical package that has nothing to envy from pure racing machines.

The story surrounding this limited series is also woven into its DNA. On 2 June 2024, Italy's national holiday, Bagnaia and Bastianini raced at Mugello in azzurro livery — the colour of Italy's national sports teams — and delivered a historic one-two finish for Ducati. The Tricolore Italia embodies that day: 163 numbered units, signed by hand by Pecco Bagnaia on the fuel tank, delivered in a personalised wooden crate, complete with certificate of authenticity, dedicated cover, Alcantara seat, racing screen, and a custom start-up animation on the dashboard. Each example carries a laser-engraved plate on the fork top yoke commemorating the lap record. This is motorcycle jewellery.

The target audience is obvious and as narrow as a chicane entry: the wealthy collector seeking a unique object, or the amateur racer with the means to acquire the finest road-going Ducati ever produced and take it to the track equipped with a dry clutch, adjustable aluminium footpegs, and a factory-fitted GPS module. This is not a beginner's motorcycle, not an everyday motorcycle — barely a road motorcycle at all, so thoroughly does it breathe heated asphalt and paddock air. The only criticism one could level at it is precisely that: at 85,000 euros, it deserves a rider equal to its capabilities, and such riders are rare. For everyone else, there are the photographs.
