Overview
Seventy-two. That is the number of owners who will receive this Panigale V4 S in a wooden crate, like a war trophy. Not a cardboard box, not simple transport packaging: a genuine wooden sarcophagus you dare not throw away and could resell for a small fortune on specialist platforms. Ducati knows what it is doing. The Bologna marque has not been selling merely motorcycles for a long time now; it sells artefacts, pieces of history signed by those who make the championship.

Marco Bezzecchi is no default choice. In 2023, the Mooney VR46 team rider kept Pecco Bagnaia on tenterhooks for much of the season before finishing third overall. Enough to join the very exclusive circle of riders whose names deserve to be laser-engraved on the upper fork yoke. That detail says it all: beneath the matte black livery, with the gold accents of the Öhlins forks and the characteristic yellow touches of the VR46 squad, this Panigale replicates Bez's Desmosedici GP line for line. The resemblance is not cosmetic — it is fully assumed, right down to the rider's own signature applied to every tank and then sealed beneath a coat of lacquer.
Mechanically, the 1,103 cc V4 produces 215.5 horsepower at 13,000 rpm and 123.6 Nm of torque at 9,500 rpm. These figures are those of the standard Panigale V4 S, but the Replica-specific components change the equation in practice. The STM-EVO SBK dry clutch alters the feel at the lever and power delivery on corner exits. The twin titanium Akrapovic silencers shed two kilograms from the scales — no small matter on a motorcycle that already tips the balance at 172 kg dry. The Brembo Stylema R calipers with remote-adjuster MCS master cylinder round out a braking package that has nothing to envy from track machines. At 193.5 kg fully fuelled and with a claimed top speed of 300 km/h, the proportions remain firmly in the territory of the most committed superbikes on the market, up against a BMW M 1000 RR or an Aprilia RSV4 Factory whose prices are nonetheless significantly lower.
The carbon fibre content is serious without being comprehensive, and that is where the shoe pinches. For €63,000, you get a vented clutch cover, exhaust heat guards, the rear mudguard, caliper cooling ducts, and a handful of scattered pieces. No full carbon bodywork. On a limited edition at this price point, it is a legitimate frustration, particularly when one recalls that Ducati once showed considerably more generosity on its R-spec models at more reasonable prices. What consoles is the rest of the crate's contents: a certificate of authenticity, a custom cover, mirror and licence plate removal kits, a GPS module for lap timing, and a billet aluminium fuel cap machined from solid. The dedicated key also triggers an exclusive dashboard animation, as though the motorcycle itself recognises its owner. Gimmick or touch of class, depending on your sensibility.

This Panigale V4 S Bezzecchi Replica is single-seat, which speaks volumes about the intended use Ducati has in mind. The marque knows full well that the vast majority of these 72 examples will never see the tarmac of a circuit or a public road. They will be displayed, preserved, speculated upon. At €63,000 — the same price as the Bagnaia Replica from the previous year — Ducati calibrates its special editions as investments just as much as machines to be ridden. The target audience is not the weekend track day enthusiast nor even the superbike collector: it is the MotoGP devotee who wants to own a fragment of the 2023 season, frozen in matte black paint and the golden reflections of an Öhlins fork that no one, perhaps, will ever come to adjust.
