Overview
Twenty-five years after redefining what an Italian sportbike could be, the 916 receives a tribute worthy of its status: a Panigale V4 S dressed in the colors of legend, produced in 500 units and sold at 41,900 euros. A figure that takes the breath away almost as much as the 214 horsepower delivered at 13,000 rpm by the Desmosedici Stradale.

Ducati did not take the easy road by invoking Carl Fogarty to sponsor this edition. Four World Superbike Championship titles, all won on the red 916, are beyond dispute. The "King" is the only one who deserved this honor, and the small eye-shaped sticker placed at the base of the racing screen recalls the Foggy replicas of old with elegant restraint. This is not cheap nostalgia; it is an assumed lineage, almost familial.
Technically, the starting point is the Panigale V4 S with its semi-active Öhlins suspension, which already represents a level of equipment that few rivals on paper can match. But Ducati Corse went further, grafting components from the V4 R: most notably the front frame, machined to pure competition specifications. The result is a bike that drops to 173 kg dry, one kilogram saved over the standard V4 S. Modest in absolute terms, but symbolically significant. Added to this are forged Marchesini magnesium wheels, a dry clutch with its characteristic open cover that chatters at idle like a true Ducati race machine, and a road-homologated Akrapovic titanium exhaust. The sound, already brutal from the factory, reaches an altogether different level here.
The 330 mm Brembo front brakes with 4-piston radially mounted calipers handle emergency stops from 194 kg ready to ride, while the 120/70-17 and 200/60-17 tire sizes remain within category standards. The 6-speed gearbox benefits from the Quick Shift EVO 2, and DTC EVO 2 traction control rounds out an already extensive electronics package. The high 830 mm seat naturally selects its audience: this is not a machine for beginners, but a cutting-edge sportbike aimed at experienced riders who know what they are looking for, and who have the financial backbone to justify the price.
That price, indeed, warrants attention. At 41,900 euros, the 25° Anniversario surpasses even the V4 R, which is otherwise the most radical version in the current lineup. At BMW, a well-equipped M 1000 RR comes in below that figure. The difference lies in what one is actually buying: not simply a high-level sportbike with a 14:1 compression ratio and a 1,103 cc 90-degree V4, but a numbered collector's item, complete with a machined top triple clamp bearing its serial number among the 500 units, a dedicated protective cover, a Ducati Data Analyzer kit with GPS, carbon covers, and aluminum mirror caps. The typical buyer is probably not the one who will take it to the track every weekend. Rather, it is a longtime enthusiast who may have encountered the original 916 in a showroom in the late 1990s, who followed Fogarty in Superbike, and who sees in this numbered example a way to own a piece of that history. The claimed top speed of 300 km/h will likely never be explored. But it matters nonetheless.
