Overview

Based entirely on the standard GS, the Rally version benefits from the same developments and adjustments. In 2018, the changes are focused on options. The 1200 GS can now be equipped with the handlebar-mounted emergency call system, additional LED lights with a new design, and the new "Connectivity" dashboard – a beautiful 6.5-inch TFT screen, with Bluetooth, call management, multicolor display, optimized navigation, and a high-tech presentation.

Still confident in its supremacy, the R 1200 GS has quietly undergone a small evolution to remain a key model in the category. Reinforced silhouette, new options, including ESA Dynamic 'Next Generation', adaptation of the injection and catalytic converter to meet Euro4 standards, and without any loss of power, as the Bavarian trail bike still displays 125 horsepower and 12.7 mkg of torque.

Miss GS doesn't just come in multiple displacements (310, 700, 800); she now also multiplies her versions. Standard for most, Exclusive for those more focused on road riding, and Rallye for those more tempted by its adventurous side. A revival of the 2012 special series? Not exactly, but it's close. The BMW R 1200 GS Rallye immediately stands out with its sporty color scheme, an overwhelming blue sprinkled with the heraldry of the Motorsport department. The frame certainly doesn't want to be discreet, with a blue lacquer finish. This announces the pace. Then, the equipment is enriched with the essentials to face raid and discovery terrains. As standard, the rims are spoked, which can be optionally fitted with knobby tires. To boost the rider, this GS benefits from a more ergonomic saddle, a lower sportier screen, and wider enduro-style footrests.

In terms of protection, it is reinforced, with a radiator protection grille, hand guards, and frame guards at the level of the boots. However, it leaves its Adventure version with its shielding based on imposing lateral tubes. But it is still possible to offer it cylinder guards. To complete the potential of the Rallye as it should, it is possible to opt (optionally) for a Sport chassis, firmer via an increase in the stiffness of the springs. Also, the increase in the length of the spring/shock absorber assemblies, offering more travel, allows for more optimism during outings on rough terrain. However, you will need to treat yourself to the ESA Dynamic to benefit from this improvement. Let's specify the differences by pointing out that on the Rallye, the radiator covers are made of stainless steel and the brake calipers take on a golden hue.

With increased ground clearance and a noticeably more dynamic look, the R 1200 GS Rallye increases the potential of the queen of trail bikes. More focused, more efficient, it only offers its best by drawing heavily on the catalog of options; as with all BMWs. It mainly allows you to reconnect with a marked adventurer side that maxi-trails no longer offer.
