Overview

Do you remember the Benelli Tre-K 1130? This three-cylinder Italian, intended as a rugged and accessible alternative to overly polished Japanese bikes? It had character, a presence, but it remained clearly a naked bike, a road animal. In 2011, Benelli had an idea: to give it the look of an adventurer, without really changing its nature. Thus was born the Tre-K 1130K Amazonas. It's a stylistic exercise, almost a statement of intent. You don't transform a 205 kg dry weight motorcycle, with a 123 horsepower engine delivering a muscular torque of 115 Nm, into a true trail bike capable of traversing the jungle. But you can infuse it with a spirit.

Benelli Tre-K 1130K Amazonas

The origin of the name is a human adventure story: a rider traveled 14,000 km through the Amazon with a modified Tre-K. The Amazonas version is an evocation of this journey, not a technical replication. The changes are aesthetic and practical: spoked wheels, tires with a profile more suited to trails, hand guards, petal-shaped brake discs, and touches of yellow color to break up the monotony of the black. The heart remains identical: the same 1131 cc inline three-cylinder engine, the same trellis steel frame, the adjustable suspension, and this chain transmission that recalls its raw side. The 22-liter tank promises a certain range, but with a full weight of 240 kg and a seat height of 840 mm, it's not the lightest or most accessible motorcycle for a beginner.

Compared to competitors of the time who were already specializing in trail bikes, such as certain Triumph Tigers or BMW GSs, the Benelli Amazonas looks like an amateur. It doesn't have the high ground clearance, nor the specific geometry for serious off-road riding. Its announced top speed of 200 km/h and dynamic behavior are tailored for the road, even if the tires and spoked wheels allow it to venture onto stabilized trails or gravel roads without too much suffering. It is a naked bike with aspirations, a road motorcycle that dreams of dirt roads. Its price, around €13,360 at the time, positioned this limited series as an object for collectors or for the globetrotter who prefers the aesthetics of adventure to its intensive practice.

Who is the target audience? It's not the pure track rider, nor the adventurer who sets off for weeks in the deserts. It's rather the urban or touring rider who wants a unique motorcycle, with a story, and who occasionally, will take the direction of a forest path without feeling completely helpless. It offers the sensation of a large and sonorous engine, the pleasure of Italian mechanics with its own character, and the thrill of an aesthetic inspired by great journeys. But let's be honest: facing a true trail bike, it lacks versatility and lightness. Its strengths are its distinctive look, its powerful engine, and its romantic story. Its weaknesses are its significant weight and its ambiguous positioning, between two worlds without truly excelling in either. The Benelli Tre-K 1130K Amazonas is ultimately a beautiful evocation, a tribute to the spirit of adventure, but not the tool to live that spirit in its most extreme form.
