Overview

When Aprilia resurrected the SX 125 in 2018 after a long absence from the catalog, no one really knew if this little supermotard would find its place in a segment dominated by the KTM Duke 125 and Husqvarna Vitpilen. Eight years later, the answer is clear: the Aprilia SX 125 2024 has carved out a solid reputation among young A2 license holders, and even among adults looking for a no-compromise urban toy.

Aprilia SX 125

The technical specifications of the Aprilia SX 125 set the tone from the start. The steel double cradle frame supports an inverted 41 mm fork with 240 mm of travel, paired with a single rear shock absorber with 210 mm. These figures are close to those found on mid-displacement supermotards, not on 125s. The result is a motorcycle that devours curbs, speed bumps, and dirt tracks without flinching, and naturally invites you to push the riding well beyond the reasonable on asphalt. The seat height of 880 mm requires long legs, and the weight of 134 kg when fully fueled remains manageable for anyone with a minimum of experience. ABS coupled with a rear wheel lift-up prevention system, extremely rare on a 125, completes a genuinely serious chassis package. The 300 mm front disc with two-piston caliper provides convincing bite for a machine in this category.

The engine, on the other hand, tells another story. The Aprilia SX 125 4T has definitively turned its back on two-stroke generations, and if some nostalgics are still searching for an Aprilia SX 125 2T used on classifieds websites, the current four-valve single-cylinder offers reliability and cleanliness beyond compare. With 15 horsepower at 10,000 rpm and 11.2 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm, we are obviously within the limits of legislation. The 2021 Euro5 update was not just a formality: new camshafts are more aggressive, the combustion chamber has been revised, iridium spark plug, completely redesigned intake and exhaust, Magneti-Marelli MIUG4 ECU. The engine responds noticeably better on corner exits than before, the six-speed gearbox works with precision, and the maximum speed of the Aprilia SX 125 is around 120 km/h, which exactly meets the expectations of the class. No talk of spectacular unlocking, unlike some competitors whose limitations are purely symbolic.

Aprilia SX 125

At 4,199 euros for the 2024 model year, the price of the Aprilia SX 125 is in the high end of the category. A KTM 125 Duke costs roughly the same, with a more powerful engine but a purely road-going philosophy. The SX plays a different score: more physical in its intentions, more versatile in fact. Lovers of Aprilia SX 125 kit déco and light tuning will appreciate a healthy base and a market that has been well structured over several generations, from 2018 and 2019 models to the 2022 and 2023 models now well established used. The target audience remains the young rider with an A2 license or the returning rider who wants to rediscover sensations close to off-road without leaving the asphalt. For them, reviews of the Aprilia SX 125 converge on the same observation: the cycle part is too well done for the engine, and it is precisely there that lies all its charm.
