Overview

When Noale decides to floor it, it’s like nothing else on the market. The Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory isn’t born from an engineering department trying to tick marketing boxes. It stems from a fifteen-year-old Italian obsession: to build the sharpest possible superbike, without compromise or excuses. The 65-degree V4 of 1099 cm3 is living proof. Calibrated to a compression ratio of 13.6:1, it delivers 217 horsepower at 13,000 rpm and 124.9 Nm of torque at 10,500 rpm. These figures truly come alive once you open the throttle exiting a fast corner: the engine catapults you with surgical brutality, combined with a progressiveness that, surprisingly, makes it manageable. The move to 1100 in 2019 added a few extra cubic centimeters, shifting the power curve slightly towards more accessible revs, without diminishing the overall rage.

Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory

The Factory version of the Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory 2022 doesn’t touch the engine. Nobody sensible would. It works where the gain is real: the chassis, the suspension, the unsprung mass. Forged aluminum wheels directly contribute to the agility of a machine that weighs 202 kg when fully fueled, an honest weight in the category compared to a Ducati Panigale V4S or a BMW M 1000 RR. The 43 mm Öhlins inverted fork and the TTX rear shock form a semi-active duo managed by Smart EC 2.0 technology: six modes in total, three automatic where the electronics adapt the damping in real time according to the riding phase, three manual for those who prefer to dictate their own conditions. All of this is configurable from the 5-inch TFT screen, via an interface that also centralizes the fifth-generation APRC, this electronic package that groups traction control, engine braking management, anti-wheeling, launch control, bidirectional shifter, anti-stoppie and cornering ABS. It’s hard to dream of a more complete toolkit at this price.

The swingarm has been revised for this generation: the repositioned reinforcement under the structure and the reduction of welding points save 600 grams while increasing rigidity by 30%. The perimeter aluminum frame retains a rare feature in the segment: the ability to reposition the engine, adjust the steering head angle and the height of the swingarm pivot. For a track rider who wants to fine-tune their setup session after session, this is a concrete advantage. The 845 mm seat height and the 17.9-liter fuel tank with a redesigned profile have lowered the saddle by 9 mm compared to the previous generation, a welcome attention. Braking entrusted to Brembo Stylema calipers biting 330 mm discs in the front suffers no criticism; it offers power and feel that still set a benchmark, while the rear 220 mm two-piston brake acts as a riding tool more than a braking organ.

It’s important to be honest about the regrets. The Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory’s listed price of 23,999 euros no longer includes the Akrapovic exhaust that once gave the machine its inimitable sonic signature. The standard exhaust line remains pleasant, but owners of previous versions who remember the original soundtrack will feel a pang. Carbon fiber has also disappeared from the standard equipment. These are understandable economic choices, but on a motorcycle at this price, the absence of these elements betrays a compromise that stings a little. By comparison, the RSV4 1100 Factory Euro 5+ listed at 26,999 euros in later versions will show that price evolution has continued without always being accompanied by additional equipment to match.

This machine is aimed at an experienced rider, ideally holding a track day subscription. Not a beginner, not a touring rider looking for a comfortable travel companion with its 845 mm seat height and nervous stance. A chrono enthusiast, capable of exploiting the six riding modes and the richness of the semi-active Öhlins system. For that person, the Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory’s technical specifications do not lie: 305 km/h in top speed, a frame adjustable like few series can boast, and a mechanical coherence that Noale has spent years perfecting. It’s not perfect in every aspect. It’s simply, on the track, among the most formidable.
