Overview
When Aprilia decides to enter the supermotard segment with a 750 cc machine, the question doesn't linger long. The manufacturer from Noale has never been shy, and the Aprilia Dorsoduro 750 confirms this without reservation. Presented in 2008 and refined until the 2010 version of interest here, this SMV arrives in a category where serious rivals can be counted on one hand: the Ducati Hypermotard on one side, massive and expensive, the KTM 950 SM on the other, brutal and heavy. Between the two, there was a need for a Latin beast with a sporty temperament without the weight and price that sometimes go with it.

The engine is the centerpiece of the package. This 749.9 cc V-twin, shared with the Shiver, produces 92 horsepower at 8,750 rpm and 82 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. On paper, this is very solid for a twin of this displacement. But Aprilia reworked the mapping to muscle up the midrange, where a supermotard lives daily, in quick pickups and hairpin turns. Ride-by-wire manages all of this with precision, without taking away the bite that defines the genre. Compression ratio is 11:1, with a four-valve cylinder head, a bore of 92 mm for a stroke of 56.4 mm. It's a square, lively engine that likes to rev.
The chassis borrows the architecture of the SL 750, namely a steel tubular trellis frame anchored to two aluminum plates. It’s rigid, precise, and visually generous. The 43 mm inverted fork offers 160 mm of travel, suitable for mixed road and urban use. The total weight in running order reaches 212 kg, 186 kg dry. It's not the lightest in the category, but it remains well below the KTM 950 SM and noticeably more manageable than the Hypermotard in a loaded configuration. The seat height at 870 mm naturally selects its audience. Shorter riders should consult their Aprilia Dorsoduro 750 technical specifications before signing, the high position and sporty build don't forgive approximations.
Visually, the machine stands out from what the competition offers. The Y-spoke wheels, the petal discs coupled with radial Brembo calipers, the exhaust located under the seat with its lateral vents, the worked section swingarm. Everything is designed with intention. The Pirelli SuperCorsa tires come standard (120/70-17 front, 180/55-17 rear) clearly announcing what this machine is for. The Factory version pushes the bar even higher with enhanced finishes, but the 2010 base at 8,999 euros already positions the machine above the entry-level segment without reaching the stratospheric prices of high-end Italian competition.

Who is the Aprilia Dorsoduro 750 for? Clearly not beginners. The seat height, the power, and the character of the twin require a solid license and already built experience. It targets the confirmed rider who wants a supermotard usable daily without giving up the occasional track pleasure. The 12-liter tank imposes logistics, the sporty position is fatiguing on long distances, and the absent passenger footpegs limit two-up touring aspirations. It’s intentional. Regarding the reliability of the Aprilia Dorsoduro 750, field feedback mainly points to regular valve train maintenance and monitoring of seals. Nothing prohibitive for those who accept that a sporty Italian motorcycle needs to be cared for with attention. The market for used Aprilia Dorsoduro 750 remains active, which testifies to a real confidence rating. The 2010, 2011, and 2014 model years are often cited as the most refined of the range.
