36,900 euros for a motorcycle that has no place on the road. Presented as it is, the question deserves consideration. The Aprilia RSV4 R-FW SBK is not a showroom sportbike that you take out on Sundays to impress onlookers. It’s the third and ultimate tier of Aprilia Racing’s Factory Works program, a prepared, homologated machine designed for national Superbike race grids. And that changes everything.

Under the bodywork shaped to slice through the air at up to 300 km/h, the 65-degree V4 with a displacement of 999.6 cc has been reworked directly by Aprilia Racing technicians. Bore of 78 mm, stroke of 52.3 mm, four valves per cylinder: on paper, nothing exceptional. But the result is 215 horsepower at 14,300 rpm, delivered via a six-speed gearbox equipped with an electronic blipper for downshifts. That’s a long way from the base RSV4. Very far. The horsepower increases, the engine management electronics are upgraded to an APX2 ECU fully programmable from a handheld computer supplied with the motorcycle. Integrated GPS, data acquisition, telemetry kit available as an option: the machine speaks the same language as a world championship prototype.

The perimeter double-beam aluminum chassis receives the complete Race Pack. Öhlins FG-616 43 mm inverted fork at the front, Öhlins mono-shock at the rear, lightweight forged alloy wheels. Braking entrusted to Brembo Race is no less serious: two 320 mm discs gripped by four-piston radial-mount monoblock calipers, a 220 mm disc at the rear. 120/70-17 and 200/55-17 tires connect to the tarmac, but it’s a track tarmac that is targeted here. The 18.5-liter fuel tank completes the equipment without particular surprises for this level.

Facing the Ducati Panigale V4 R or the BMW M 1000 RR in their racing configurations, Aprilia plays in the same league. The advantage of the RSV4 R-FW SBK lies in its philosophy: Aprilia provides technical training included in the price, a concrete support to help the rider understand and exploit this complex electronics. Because a 215-horsepower motorcycle with telemetry, customizable mappings, and fully adjustable suspension does not forgive amateurism. Without a minimum of technical knowledge or the support of a track engineer, a good portion of the potential remains buried in the ECU menus.

The target audience is narrow, almost confidential. This is not a machine for the Sunday rider who wants to play at being a track rider a few weekends a year. It’s a tool designed for racing engagement, for those who know how to read telemetry data, who understand what it means to modify an injection curve or adapt the engine braking on corner exit. The high price is explained as much by the level of the components as by this overall service logic. For those willing to invest fully, Aprilia offers a serious work base, directly from competition. The others will pass by, and that’s very well.
