Overview
When a Chinese brand claims 95 horsepower, an aluminum perimeter frame, and a price tag of €8,500, the first reaction is often skepticism. The second, once you look closely at the spec sheet, tends to be closer to curiosity. Zontes is no longer an unknown quantity in the European landscape, and the 2026 703 T represents a serious attempt to establish itself in the middleweight trail segment, where competition is fierce and demanding.

The 699 cc parallel-twin engine features bore and stroke dimensions of 70 x 60.6 mm, a square profile that betrays a high-revving character rather than low-end torque. Peak power of 70 kW arrives at 10,000 rpm, with 76.5 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm. This is not the philosophy of a big British twin that lopes along at 4,000 rpm with its hands in its pockets. You'll need to work the six-speed gearbox to extract the thrills. On twisty roads, that can translate into genuine enjoyment; on long motorway hauls, some riders will prefer the meatier character of a Kawasaki Versys 650 or a Triumph Tiger 660. The claimed top speed of 215 km/h is flattering for the category, though such figures always come with ideal-conditions caveats.
The aluminum perimeter frame, 43 mm inverted fork, and rear monoshock form a foundation that, on paper, has nothing to envy from Japanese or European segment standards. Nissin calipers signal serious braking credentials — a well-regarded component found on considerably more expensive machines. The 20-liter fuel tank is generous and suits touring or long-distance use, which remains consistent with the machine's trail ambitions. On the other hand, the absence of weight and seat height data in the official specifications is a gap that complicates evaluation for shorter riders or those sensitive to low-speed maneuverability.
The 13:1 compression ratio, combined with Euro 5+ compliance, shows that Zontes has worked seriously on the thermodynamics to meet the latest emissions standards without sacrificing performance. This is a notable distinction from some competitors that play it safe with more conservative engine tuning. The target audience for this 703 T is not the absolute beginner, even if the trail proportions and moderate power remain accessible. It is more the intermediate rider seeking genuine versatility — capable of devouring weekend miles and tackling mountain passes without running short of resources.
At €8,500, the 703 T positions itself squarely as a value challenger. The Triumph Tiger 660 Sport costs around €3,000 more for a comparable proposition in terms of displacement and character. The question is not whether the Triumph is better — that would be too simple. It is whether Zontes has sufficiently matured its aftersales network and long-term reliability to make the price gap a genuine bargain. That is precisely where the brand still has something to prove over time.
