Overview
Imagine a machine that knows only one terrain: that of combat. It sees neither road, nor traffic, nor a straight, paved line. Its universe is limited to bumps, holes, high-banked turns, and flying dirt. It is there, in this organized chaos, that the Yamaha YZ450F Monster Energy Edition finds its reason for being. This motorcycle is not a toy; it is a competition instrument, derived directly from the arsenal used by the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory teams in MXGP and MX2. It carries the aggressive black and blue livery of those teams, as if it came directly from the factory truck, with a look that clearly announces its intentions.

Technically, it is the quintessence of what Yamaha offers today in four-stroke motocross. Its 449 cc engine, a single-cylinder four-valve, concentrates 55 horsepower in a redesigned block in 2020 to be more compact and lighter. Coupled with a double-beam aluminum frame that has also been optimized to lose weight and gain rigidity, the whole achieves a wet weight of 111 kg. It's a maul, but an agile one. The 13:1 compression ratio speaks of an engine that demands precision and respect, a block tailored for the immediate response and explosive power that cross demands.
Compared to its rivals, the KTM 450 SX-F or the Honda CRF450R, the Yamaha stands out with a philosophy of total control. It features a Launch Control System to master starts, and above all, the Yamaha Power Tuner application. This tool is a revolution for the amateur rider: it allows you to modify engine parameters, refine the mapping in seconds from a smartphone, directly at the edge of the track. This is a level of personalization that, until recently, was reserved for professional teams. The fully adjustable KYB suspensions and the chassis work in harmony to offer handling that remains consistent, whether you are in third gear in a field or in first gear in a technical turn.
Who is it for? Absolutely not for a beginner. This YZ450F Monster Energy Edition is a rider's motorcycle. It requires a good dose of experience to exploit its potential without being overwhelmed. Its fuel tank of only 6 liters recalls that it is designed for intense sessions, not for leisurely rides. Its price, around 9500 euros, also places this special version in the high end of production motorcycles. It is an investment for those seeking the most accomplished machine, the most connected, and who want, beneath them, the tool closest to what Seewer or Geerts use to attack world championships. It has no major flaws if we remain in its domain, pure motocross. But off the track, it simply becomes useless. It is a specialist, brilliant in its art, but incapable of doing anything else. A Formula 1 for dirt.
