Overview
Who would have thought a quarter-liter could accumulate so much expertise and trophies? On paper, the Yamaha YZ250F remains a 250 cm3 four-stroke, with its reverse-cylinder head and 44 horsepower that must animate 105 kg fully loaded. But between the lines, it carries the DNA of victories in MX2 and Supercross, a reputation forged on the worst terrains in the world. For 2025, it doesn't get a makeover, it refines a weapon.

The philosophy is clear: everything that has made the success of the 450F big sister must trickle down to the 250. The double-beam aluminum frame is the perfect example. Redesigned, it lowers its center of gravity and redraws its riding triangle. A flatter seat, lowered footpegs, a handlebar brought closer. These millimeters gained are track time. The rider nestles into the machine, and changes of direction become a thought more than an effort. It is a motorcycle that wants to be obvious, predictable, a natural extension of the body.
Under this sharpened chassis, KYB suspensions reign supreme. Their settings have been reworked to match the new frame, with a focus on absorbing small bumps and traction on corner exits. The manual compression adjustment on the fork is appreciated, a welcome simplicity at the trackside. The rear brake also gains precision thanks to a less rigid flexible hose, offering finer metering to pivot the machine. Nothing is left to chance, everything serves maneuverability.
But the heart beats in its engine. Engineers have refined the air intake, with a duct inspired by the 450F, and reworked the exhaust for greater regulatory discretion without sacrificing rage. Low- and mid-range torque remains the strong point of this mechanics, but there is a desire to stretch the upper revs. A low-friction timing chain and a retouched mapping contribute to this. The whole thing remains manageable by a mortal, but the margin is there for those who dare.
But the real revolution is digital. The Power Tuner application is now the indispensable tool. It allows you to switch from an explosive mapping to a softer one with a swipe of a finger, or to dive into fine 4x4 matrix settings for factory teams. It also manages two-level traction control and the rev limiter for starts, gadgets yesterday, decisive assets today. At nearly 10,000 euros, the YZ250F 2025 is not a motorcycle for beginners. It is a competition tool for the demanding amateur rider or the young hopeful who wants a neutral chassis and cutting-edge electronics. Faced with a more nervous KTM 250 SX-F or a Honda CRF250R perhaps more physical, the Yamaha plays the card of balance and sophistication. It doesn't make noise, it does the job. And often, it climbs the highest step.
