When KTM decides to celebrate five years of collaboration with Troy Lee and his Red Bull Factory Racing team, it doesn't translate into a simple extra sticker. The 2021 250 SX-F in its TLD livery is a limited edition built with a clear ambition: to step out of the catalog and into paddock legend. At €10,949, the message is unambiguous, and it speaks to riders who know exactly what they want.

Beneath the bodywork featuring embedded graphics directly inspired by the machines campaigned in American Supercross and Motocross, sits a 249.9 cc four-stroke single producing 45 horsepower. The 78 x 52.3 mm bore-stroke ratio, combined with a 14.4:1 compression ratio and four valves per cylinder, cuts this engine for high-rpm operation. The titanium Akrapovic slip-on silencer included as standard improves low-end response while shaving a few grams off an already trim dry weight of 101 kg. On a motocross track where every tenth of a second is won in rhythm breaks, that lightness counts double.
The technical specification is what truly sets this special edition apart from a standard SX-F. The top-of-the-range WP XACT suspension, featuring a 48 mm inverted fork with 310 mm of travel and a shock tuned for 300 mm, is set up in conjunction with the orange anodized Factory triple clamps, whose stiffness has been precisely calculated to match the flex characteristics of the entire front end. The chrome-molybdenum steel tubular frame is a direct heir to KTM's philosophy: rigid where it needs to be, supple enough not to deaden feedback from the ground. The Brembo brakes with a 260 mm semi-floating front disc and two-piston caliper complete a chassis architecture you won't find on a Husqvarna FC 250 or a Honda CRF 250R in this price range.
What gives this machine its real edge is the layering of technologies that seemed reserved for prototypes until recently. The handlebar-mounted map selector allows switching between two engine mappings, activating launch control to optimize starts, or engaging traction control on tricky surfaces. The Connectivity Unit, fitted as standard, pairs with the myKTM app to fine-tune mapping and suspension settings from a smartphone. On a 250cc motocross bike, it almost feels extravagant, but high-level riders who manage their data between motos will appreciate the time saved. The Factory wheels with black D.I.D DirtStar rims, orange anodized CNC hubs and black spokes finish placing this motorcycle in a category of its own, with a level of attention to detail that stands in sharp contrast to the functional austerity of standard production versions. The 950 mm seat height and 7-liter tank are a reminder that this is a pure track machine, with no concessions toward versatility.
The target audience is quickly identified: the experienced rider, competing at club or regional level, who wants to ride with pro-spec equipment without going through the official Factory budget route. This TLD is not a bike for learning motocross — the high seat and raw power of the single require a confirmed level of riding ability. For those who fit that profile, it is probably one of the best-equipped 250 four-strokes straight out of the crate, in a segment where Japanese competition remains formidable in terms of reliability but often lags behind on stock equipment.
