Overview

The WR-F 250 provides a great foundation for discovering enduro riding, without being underpowered or overwhelming. Thanks to its powerful 250cc engine, developed from the championship-winning YZ 250 F, the Yamaha offers top-level performance and strong low-end torque. Optimizing its enduro capabilities, its agility and comfortable riding position ensure the rider achieves peak performance on both slow technical sections and high-speed trails.

The 2026 model retains its innovative cylinder head with a wide intake port and high-performance cam chain with low-friction, as well as the recently updated suspension and optimized bilateral beam frame, developed from the YZ 250 F motocross model but optimized to excel in enduro environments. Lightweight hubs and three crossed spokes promote shock absorption and traction, while compact fairings, a flat seat, and lightweight components allow for optimal freedom of movement and maneuverability. Adjustments are made effortlessly thanks to a manual compression adjustment system for the front fork and the smartphone Power Tuner application, which is very easy to use.

For added peace of mind, the WR 250 F benefits from a world-first electronic anti-theft lock, accessible via the free Power Tuner application. This feature allows owners to lock the ECU so that the engine will not start until the owner unlocks their machine using a password. The Power Tuner application also features a lap timer function and allows for simple and intuitive settings. It can also be used to adjust traction control parameters.

For 2026, the WR features a new blue, anti-slip surface seat to allow the rider to maintain their position during hard acceleration. To facilitate movement on the motorcycle and transition from a seated to a standing position, the flat and thin seat with rounded edges.

Since 2025, improvements include a new timing chain to reduce frictional losses, an optimized bilateral beam aluminum frame to improve rider agility and feel, top-of-its-class KYB suspension to improve stability and shock absorption, increased power thanks to a new high-efficiency air intake system, as well as a new compact fairing and a thinner, flatter seat.

For improved maneuverability, the redesigned chassis of the WR250F draws inspiration from the design of the race-winning YZ250F model, while also incorporating essential improvements for high-level enduro riding. The frame now features a lower fuel rail by 15mm and a U-shaped profile at the rear. The connecting tube has also been lowered by 15mm to lower the motorcycle’s center of gravity and improve stability and agility when cornering.

To offer the rider as much feel and feedback as possible, the shock absorption and lateral flex characteristics of the new frame have been given particular attention, to provide a smoother ride while reducing rider fatigue.

The KYB fork, with a shorter stroke of 10mm, combined with the lower 10mm KYB shock, lowers the motorcycle’s center of gravity and reduces seat height for increased stability and agility.

Furthermore, the fork is equipped with a manual compression adjustment system that allows for fine-tuning of the suspension without tools, while reinforced dust seals and extended fork protectors offer improved protection against dirt and debris, ensuring increased performance and durability.

At the rear wheel, the WR250F is equipped with a lightweight three-spoke rear hub and a 22mm rear axle designed to improve shock feel and provide the rider with better feedback.

To improve power characteristics, the 2025 WR250F is equipped with a high-efficiency air intake system, with an airbox that draws air from the rear of the machine via ducts located in the side panels, frame, and tank. The new short muffler improves mass centralization and accentuates the motorcycle’s compact feel, while the revised ECU has been tuned to provide smoother, more controllable power at low RPM as well as excellent performance at mid and high speeds.

The inverted cylinder head engine, improved for 2025, is also equipped with a wider timing chain as well as optimized sprockets and friction plates to reduce power losses.

Furthermore, the redesigned WR250F fairing features narrower 50mm covers, a slimmer fuel tank, and a flatter seat to improve rider mobility during braking, acceleration, and cornering. The riding position allows for more space between the hips and feet and gives the rider more freedom to adopt an active riding style.

The updated Yamaha Power Tuner application improves the remote tuning system of the WR250F. The “Quick Tuning” rapid adjustment function allows the rider to modify engine settings and switch from a mild setting to an aggressive setting using a simple slider on their smartphone, while traction control adjustments and the lap timer function are accessible with a few clicks on the screen.

A revised starter, a lithium-ion battery, and a convenient multifunction handlebar switch have also been added to improve overall quality.
