Overview
Imagine a motorcycle that is searching for its identity, oscillating between the ferocity of a sportbike and the wisdom of a touring machine. That is precisely the dilemma of this 2007 Yamaha FZ 6 Fazer. Yamaha took the R6 engine, that inline 600 cm3 four-cylinder, and gave it a dose of restraint. The result: 78 horsepower at 11,500 rpm, a torque of 51.7 Nm that manifests rather high in the rev range. It’s far from the nervous explosion of the original sportbike, but the engine gains docility for city riding or winding roads. This is a clear commercial choice: Yamaha is targeting here the young license holders or the rider who wants versatility without excess.

The transformation doesn't stop at the engine. The die-cast aluminum frame is a beautiful piece, rigid and aesthetic, with no visible welds. The geometry has been reworked: reduced rake, longer swingarm. On paper, this promises better stability and improved traction. But on the road, the choice of a 180 rear tire, wide for a machine of this power, slightly weighs down the steering. It's a compromise, a bit of heaviness for a bit more confidence. The braking, with its two 298 mm front discs, remains effective without being brutal, well suited to the spirit of the machine.
Where does this Fazer position itself against the competition? It doesn't have the rage of a Honda CBR600RR, nor the raw character of a Suzuki GSX-R. It plays on another ground, that of the everyday motorcycle, capable of everything without specializing. With a 795 mm seat height and a 19.4-liter tank, it is accessible and offers correct autonomy. The weight, 207 kg fully fueled, remains average, but one feels the absence of the extreme lightness of pure sportbikes. The price, 6390 euros at the time, placed it in an accessible category for a machine with such technical pedigree.
Its audience? It’s the urban rider who also dreams of weekends in the open air, the beginner who wants a capable machine without being intimidating, or even the touring rider looking for an alternative less encompassing than a GT. The Yamaha FZ 6 Fazer is a compromise machine, sometimes frustrating for a pure track rider, but terribly effective for those who don't want to choose between several motorcycles. It’s not the best in one discipline, but it’s good in all. And sometimes, that’s exactly what you’re looking for.
