Overview
Do you remember the era when a 600 sportbike absolutely had to unleash its fury, with an engine as sharp as a scalpel? Yamaha, in 2008, took a radical turn with the FZ6 Fazer. Rather than adding horsepower, they chose maturity. The engine, derived from the R6, is deeply reworked here: goodbye to 100 wild horsepower, hello to 78 civilized horsepower and, above all, a torque of 51.7 Nm that arrives much earlier in the rev range. The objective is clear: to seduce the young license holder or the touring rider looking for a versatile machine without the constant nerves of a supersport. At €6390, it catches the eye of those who avoid the price and aggressiveness of the GSX-R 600 or CBR600RR.

This Yamaha FZ 6 Fazer relies on its chassis and ergonomics. The die-cast aluminum frame is a piece of jewelry, both rigid and aesthetic, inheriting techniques from the R1. With a seat height of 795 mm and a wet weight of 207 kg, it is accessible. The riding position is upright, comfortable for the city as well as for long journeys, even if the 19.4-liter fuel tank has shrunk slightly. The real revolution is in road handling. A lengthened swingarm and refined geometry (25° of rake) offer remarkable stability and intuitive maneuverability. It is far from a motorcycle exclusive for the track; here, fluidity is paramount.
Let's talk about the engine. This 600 cm3 inline four-cylinder engine has been deliberately tamed. The camshafts and intake are modified to favor the low and mid range. Result? Easier-to-manage power, torque available from the mid range, perfect for overtaking or winding roads without torturing the six-speed gearbox. Some purists will complain about the 180 rear tire, considered too wide for such contained power, but it contributes to this feeling of serenity and grip. The braking, with its two 298 mm front discs, is effective without being brutal, in line with the spirit of the machine.
Ultimately, this Yamaha Fazer 600 establishes itself as an intelligent anti-supersport. It does not target the track day rider, but the everyday user, who wants some character without the drawbacks. It is easier, more versatile and less expensive than its sporty cousins. Its flaw? Perhaps a lack of bite for thrill-seekers, who will prefer the S2 version or a true sportbike. But for those looking for a complete sport roadster motorcycle, beautiful, well-finished and incredibly easy to live with, the FZ6 Fazer of 2008 remains a very convincing proposition. A machine that has known how to age gracefully and which proves that wisdom can be as exciting as madness.
