Overview
Imagine a machine that defies the boundary between asphalt and dirt track, with the elegance of a British triple as its main argument. The 2015 Triumph Tiger 800 XCX is not just a motorcycle, it’s a proposition, a bold gamble that shakes up the trail segment. With its 95 horsepower from its three-cylinder engine, it doesn’t have the brutality of a twin, but a more civilized, more linear power delivery, ideal for those who want torque without the nervousness.

On paper, the figures speak for themselves: 79 Nm of torque at 7850 rpm, a wet weight of 215 kg and a 845 mm seat height that commands respect. It’s clearly a motorcycle that announces its adventurous nature, especially when compared to a competitor like the Honda Africa Twin of the time, more oriented towards pure off-road. The Tiger 800 XCX, on the other hand, targets the demanding globetrotter who wants a tool capable of everything, from forest tracks to the highway, without ever failing. Its trellis frame and adjustable WP suspension are its guarantees.
Yet, its true genius lies in its balance. The 799 cm³ engine is a delight, supple at low revs and singing at high revs, propelling the machine up to 200 km/h without ever seeming strained. Consumption is around 5.7 L/100 km, an appreciable sobriety with its 19-liter tank. But it’s not a perfect illusion. This weight, although mastered, is felt on technical trails, and the seat height can be an obstacle for smaller riders. The Nissin brakes with switchable ABS do the job, and nothing more.

Today, looking for a used Triumph Tiger 800 XCX, especially a 2015, 2016 or 2017 model, is an excellent calculation. For a new price that hovered around €12,500 at the time, bargains can now be found on the used market. It’s an opportunity to treat yourself to an incredibly versatile platform, more road-book than the basic XCx version, without breaking the bank. The numerous tests of the Triumph Tiger 800 XCX available online and discussions on forums confirm it: it’s a machine that forges a particular attachment.

So, who is it for? For the motorcyclist who refuses to choose, who wants one motorcycle for the daily commute, the grand journey and escapades on the trails. It is neither the most radical in the mud, nor the most comfortable on the road, but its combination of character, finish and versatility remains unique. Faced with a more rustic Africa Twin or more road-oriented trails, the Tiger 800 XCX holds its own, literally, with a very British flair. A firm opinion? It’s one of the best all-round trails of the decade, and a golden opportunity to seize today.
