Overview

Do you remember that feeling? That sudden stop of the pavement and your heart taking a little leap, half apprehension, half pure excitement. That’s exactly where the Triumph Tiger 800 XCX finds its meaning again. It’s not a motorcycle that patiently waits for perfect asphalt; it anticipates the unexpected turn, the dirt track leading to a panorama. With its 21-inch front tire and spoked rims, it clearly announces its intentions: the adventure begins where others stop.

Triumph Tiger 800 XCX

Under the 19-liter fuel tank beats the famous 800cc three-cylinder engine, a mechanical marvel that has made the brand’s reputation. Here, it delivers 95 horsepower at 9500 rpm, with a torque of 79 Nm well present in the low revs. It’s not the powerhouse of a hypersport, but that’s precisely its strength: a progressiveness, an elasticity that inspires confidence, whether negotiating a slippery trail or devouring a long ribbon of asphalt. Faced with a rival like the Honda Africa Twin, more focused on pure off-road riding, the Tiger 800 XCX plays the versatility and character card. Its triple engine sings in a unique way, and its road handling remains much more lively.

But the real progress for this 2019 generation is the electronics. The dashboard is dominated by a 5-inch color TFT screen, modern and customizable. Above all, the riding modes increase to five, including an Off-Road Pro mode that deactivates the rear ABS and softens the traction control. It’s serious. The adjustable WP suspension and Brembo brakes complete a very high-end package. For a new price of around 13,900 euros at the time, the motorcycle was almost complete: heated grips, handguards, cruise control, engine guard… The argument against German competitors was solid. Today, looking for a used Triumph Tiger 800 XCX, especially a 2018 or 2019 model, can be an excellent calculation, offering an unbeatable equipment/pleasure ratio.

Triumph Tiger 800 XCX

So, who is this tiger for? Certainly not for the absolute beginner, intimidated by its 205 kg dry weight and its 840 mm seat height. It’s the ideal mount for the adventurous globetrotter, the one who prioritizes travel over attacking the clock, but who refuses to compromise on riding pleasure and build quality. It’s a motorcycle that encourages you to take the next track, knowing that the return to the national road will be just as enjoyable. After a test ride of the Triumph Tiger 800 XCX, you understand that it is not the most radical in any area, but that it is probably one of the most capable and charismatic on all terrains. A true Swiss army knife for long journeys, with the soul of a British triple.
