Overview
Does the ideal motorcycle exist? A machine capable of carrying you to work in the rain, of following you on back roads on a weekend, and of not making you regret every penny invested? The Triumph Tiger 800 XCA, in its 2015 generation, attempts to answer this dream with a particularly British approach. It doesn't seek brute performance, but rather high-end versatility, almost over-equipped. For around 13690 euros at the time, it positioned itself as the ultimate version, the “all-inclusive” of the Tiger 800 family, intended for those who want to leave without buying anything extra.

Its heart is that famous 799 cc three-cylinder engine, a mechanical element that has forged Triumph’s reputation. With 95 horsepower at 9250 rpm and a torque of 79.4 Nm, it doesn't seek extreme top-end power, but offers elasticity and a characteristic sound that makes every ride lively. Compared to a more neutral Japanese competitor, this engine has personality; it is playful and responsive. It propels this 228 kg machine (fully fueled) to a top speed of 200 km/h, which is sufficient for all real-world situations. The weight, however, remains a point of discussion, especially with this 840 mm seat height, which may intimidate those of smaller stature; it is a motorcycle that demands a certain physical presence.
But where the Tiger 800 XCA 2015 truly shows its ambitions is in its equipment. This is where keywords like “Triumph Tiger 800 XCA ABS” or “GPS mount kit” take on their full meaning. It left with almost everything: ABS with off-road mode, cruise control, traction control, engine protections, heated grips and seat, three 12V sockets and a boosted 650W alternator to power all of this. It even included a GPS mount kit and a tire pressure monitoring system. It was a motorcycle designed for long adventure riding, without a return to the accessory shop. The tubular trellis frame, the 220 mm stroke Showa inverted fork, and the 21-inch front wheel confirmed this “XC” orientation, capable of straying from pure tarmac.
For whom? It wasn’t the beginner’s motorcycle, nor the pure racing bike’s. It targeted the adventurous globetrotter, the one who wants a unique machine for the road and light off-road riding, with a level of finish and equipment that justifies its price. Today, on the used market, a Triumph Tiger 800 XCA 2016 or 2017 often represents an interesting opportunity to acquire this high-end versatility without the new price. Forums dedicated to the Triumph Tiger 800 XCA are full of testimonials from users satisfied with this ability to do everything.
In conclusion, this Tiger 800 XCA 2015 wasn’t the lightest, nor the most powerful in the segment. But it offered a consistent package, an endearing engine character, and such complete equipment that it made adventure immediate. It proved that sometimes, the ideal motorcycle isn’t the most specialized, but the one that faithfully follows you, whatever direction you choose.
