Overview

It's a road that snow hasn't had time to whiten. It's the look of a surprised marmot startled by a hoarse sound. It's a zest of cold sun placed on the morning frost. These small moments, the Triumph Tiger 1200 Alpine Edition wants to reveal to you. To show that its name is not just an idea but a mission.

To take you to destinations like the Alps for the joys of its venerable roads; and not its forest paths. This large trail-GT doesn't have the shoes for trails but rather for asphalt. Triumph offers it two special outfits to blend into the scenery of the mountain passes: a grand white with blue freshness to smile at collections of ice, or a gray coat with orange peels more typical of a mountain guide.

The Alpine Edition is not just about clothing. Just like the previous version (dating from 2020–2021), it gains in equipment. For this one, it will be the installation of heated seats (it snows at the top of the passes) as well as a rear radar to add a double alert function. A blind spot assist and lane change assist, to avoid contact with a deer that would catch up to you on the side *.

Where it really becomes nice is that with this additional equipment, the Alpine Edition is..... less expensive than the 1200 GT Pro from which it is derived. Is there a wolf? Apparently not. And then, if we encounter a pack of these friendly little beasts, the 150 horsepower of the little three-cylinder engine of 1160 cm3 will quickly propel the Tiger and its crew far away.

Because this imposing trail has watts, and a lot of torque. Up to 130 Nm, a nice scoop of pull and muscle. Let's quickly review its specifications, which are its semi-active Showa suspensions, Brembo stylema brakes (from hypersport bikes), its striking swingarm with shaft drive transmission, its comprehensive electronics, its Bridgestone A41 tires, and its 247 kg when full.

Triumph thought of those who would like a more modest Alpine, with the Tiger 900 of the same name; or more oriented towards adventure with the 1200 Desert Edition. In each case, the English feline makes efforts to invite riders onto its back.

* The Blind Spot Assist system uses a rear-facing radar to warn the driver when another vehicle is in their blind spot, while the Lane Change Assist system emits a more visible warning if the driver signals their intention to change lanes and a vehicle approaches.
