Overview

Disappeared from the Triumph catalogue since 2005, the Thunderbird name returned in 2010 under a radically new light. Formerly designating a neo-retro 3-cylinder roadster, this name is now that of a large custom built for America... designed in the Triumph style, faithful to the philosophy of our neighbors across the Channel who certainly don’t do anything like everyone else.

With the Rocket III, Triumph possesses the largest production custom (excluding the Boss Hoss and a few skilled preparations). But this behemoth of 2.3 liters of displacement is a departure from the engine tradition of customs: these are only found with 2 cylinders; and the Rocket has 3. That’s where this Thunderbird comes in. A large beast of 1594 cm3 whose heart is a twin... in the Triumph style. Not a V engine like on 95% of customs but in parallel, as can be found on the Bonneville, Scrambler, and other Thruxton. This 6-speed block is installed in a Bonneville America-style chassis. Powerful just enough, this liquid-cooled engine develops 86 horsepower under 5000 rpm. Hinckley has generously equipped it with torque, with almost 15 mkg in the boiler before even 3000 rpm. Enough to smoothly launch the 339 kg of the machine. Comfort will certainly be one of the charming assets of this huge steel bird.

On the braking side, 3 discs of 310 mm are dispatched to the rescue. A crowd of accessories are available to personalize your Thunderbird, from the essential to the superfluous. In a few years, the Thunderbird has given birth to a real "little family," now composed of the Strom, Nightstorm, LT and Commander.
