Is it still possible to surprise with a middleweight roadster? Triumph rises to the challenge with this third generation of the Street Triple, and the S version positions itself as a mischievous entry-level model. Forget the idea of a simple cosmetic update: the move to the 765 cm³ engine is a technical gamble. This triple, inherited from the Moto2 world and boosted to 113 horsepower, has little in common with the old 675. It gains in flexibility, with its 73 Nm of torque available earlier, while retaining that screaming soul that defines inline three-cylinder engines. Facing fierce competition like the Yamaha MT-09 or the Kawasaki Z900, the British bike relies on finesse and character.

Speaking of character. With 168 kilograms announced dry, the Street Triple S plays the card of pure agility. The chassis, a proven aluminum frame, offers rail-like precision. The Showa SFF inverted fork and the single shock absorber are perhaps the elements where the "entry-level" positioning is felt, the latter being adjustable only for preload. For the daily rider or sporty touring rider, this is more than sufficient. On the other hand, the pure track rider will naturally look towards the R or RS versions, which are better equipped. The brakes, double-piston Nissin, are effective without being track day weapons, but ABS and traction control, switchable, are there to bring back serenity.
The real feat lies in the now accessible electronic equipment. A ride-by-wire throttle opens the way to two riding modes, Rain and Road, modulating engine response and traction control intervention. The dashboard, although not the full-page TFT of the higher-end models, remains clear and complete. This is the whole point of this Triumph Street Triple S: it offers a serious dive into motorcycle modernity, with an entry price that remains contained. For around 9100 euros at the time, it positioned itself as a premium option compared to the Japanese bikes, but with a typically British pedigree and finish.
So, who is it for? Clearly for the motorcyclist looking for a lively, nervous and stylish machine for the city and winding roads, without requiring ultimate track performance. It is also an excellent choice for those considering an A2 restriction kit, the engine having the necessary margin to remain pleasant once limited. Ultimately, the 2019 Street Triple S is not a revolution, but a very successful evolution. It muscles up its engine, refines its chassis and dresses it in electronics without betraying the lively and mischievous spirit that made it successful. It doesn't seek a brute brawl with the MT-09, but rather offers a more refined, more precise alternative. A roadster that is ridden with a smile, and which brilliantly recalls that finesse can sometimes be more exhilarating than pure power.
