Overview
Can a motorcycle be both sensible and mischievous? That’s the question posed by this Triumph Street Triple S, the most accessible version of the celebrated family with the triple growl. With its 660 cc engine delivering 95 horsepower, it serves as an entry-level model, but don’t be fooled: at Triumph, entry-level remains a premium proposition.

The initial contact is immediately familiar to those acquainted with the other models in the Street Triple range. The perimeter aluminum frame, aggressive silhouette, and fierce gaze of its twin headlights are strictly identical to those of its larger 765 RS sister. This is a masterstroke of marketing: no owner will feel like they’re riding a downgraded version. The differences are subtle and require a trained eye to spot: less extravagant mirrors, less luxurious finish on the rear frame or the end of the silencer. The essence of the character is preserved.
Under the 17.4-liter fuel tank beats the heart of the difference: a 660 cc three-cylinder engine, specifically developed to meet Euro5 standards and, above all, to be able to be restricted to 47.5 horsepower to meet the A2 license requirements. Its 95 horsepower at 11250 rpm and its torque of 66.7 Nm make it a more than respectable machine, capable of reaching 220 km/h, but it loses some of the ferocity it gains in accessibility compared to the 765 engine. The chassis philosophy follows the same logic. Farewell to the Brembo M50 calipers and the fully adjustable Showa fork of the RS. Here, you’ll find two-piston Nissin brakes and basic Showa suspension, with only preload adjustment at the rear. This is sufficient for sporty use as a roadster, but the dedicated track rider will regret the lack of fine adjustment.
So, who is this Triumph Street Triple S for? Clearly for the young license holder emerging from the A2, or the motorcyclist seeking the sensations of a lively roadster without wanting to spend 10,000 euros or more on the 765 version. For around 8700 euros, it offers a coherent and attractive package, including traction control, ABS, and two riding modes. Its analog needle dashboard may seem outdated in the age of TFT screens, but it has the merit of clarity and simplicity. The real danger for this Street Triple S 660 may not come from Japanese competition, but from within the brand, with the Trident 660 sharing the same engine for an even more attractive price.
Ultimately, this machine is a lesson in balance. It doesn't possess the extreme brutality of the RS, but it retains all of its soul and agility, all with an ergonomics adapted to everyday use and a seat height of 810 mm that will suit most riders. It’s proof that you can make concessions on power and equipment without sacrificing pleasure and character. A fine achievement, even if its price, for a 660 cc machine, can still make you hesitate compared to some better-equipped competitors. To find a used Triumph Street Triple S, the 2020 or 2021 models represent excellent compromises.
