Overview
We certainly won't (ask ourselves) why Triumph added the "Stealth" (discreet) descriptor to a motorcycle that only asks to be noticed. Whether it's due to its violent silhouette, its "Purple" colored tank, or its rocky gangster face, this special edition Bobber commands attention without fail.
Each year brings a new Triumph collection. Last year, it was chrome. In 2024, it will be a gradient on the tank; a more or less trashy color palette depending on the motorcycle. The 1200 Bobber presents the most rock look of the group, with a fleeting black that quickly transitions to a punk-like purple. This is a motorcycle we could easily see under the guitar assaults of Green Day, Offspring, or Prodigy.
Only the fuel tank treatment justifies the Stealth specificity. How do they do it at Triumph? The process begins with the application of a metallic "Silver Ice" base coat with a mirror finish, followed by a precisely placed "Sapphire Black" graphite gradient, from darkest to lightest. Finally, a translucent tinted varnish is applied in several layers to obtain a rich and deep finish.
That’s the technical explanation. On the road, under the sun or under the spotlights, the main asset of this hand-executed work is a different perception of the color depending on the viewing angle or lighting conditions. The Bobber is precisely a custom that likes to be watched a bit everywhere. Everything contributes: the large front fork, that sulfurous, streamlined rear end with the floating seat, the faux hardtail rear end, the beveled silencers, the engine straight as an "i" and which seems to take up all the space.
At first glance, this twin seems to be a monster. The 1200 inscribed on the block, complemented by the HT (for High Torque) mention, looms like a threat. It only produces 78 horsepower, however. Its strength lies elsewhere. It's more about its torque and sensations that emotions are played, with a presence worthy of a large molossus chasing a rabbit. The maximum torque of 10.8 mkg is reached at only 4,000 rpm, to say the least.
The Bobber may look like it came out of an American gang from the 1960s but its insides are very modern. The throttle is Ride by Wire, the headlights are LEDs, and the driving aids are well hidden but present, with cruise control, ABS, a switchable traction control system, and two Riding Modes. To ride macho, solo, without complications, with this LSD coating on the tank, the Stealth Edition Bobber will ask for 800 euros more than the classic – I mean Modern Classics – model.
