Overview

Calling a motorcycle "Stealth" when it arrives in a gradient burgundy red takes a certain nerve. Triumph doesn't lack that nerve, and it's precisely what makes the Speedmaster interesting in a segment dominated by Americans who lean hard on chrome and Japanese manufacturers playing it safe. The British custom occupies its own territory: less ostentatious than a Harley Softail, less sanitized than a Honda CMX1100. Smarter, let's say.

Triumph 1200 Speedmaster Red Stealth Edition

The 1200 cc eight-valve parallel twin is the heart of this machine. Its 78 horsepower at 6,100 rpm won't frighten track riders, but that's not the point. What matters is the torque — 105.9 Nm available from 4,000 rpm, a range that turns every urban roll-on into something visceral and immediate. The Speedmaster doesn't scream, it pushes, with that quiet consistency only a well-tuned big twin can deliver. The six-speed gearbox accompanies all of this discreetly, and at 263 kg fully fuelled, it stays within reasonable bounds for the category, even if the low 705 mm seat height makes low-speed management easier.

The 2024 Red Stealth edition is based on a hand-finished paint treatment, a gradient that shifts from deep black to burgundy red across the 12-litre tank. The effect varies with the light — sometimes dark and heavy, sometimes vivid depending on the angle. This is genuine craftsmanship, not a simple catalogue colour, and the €800 surcharge is explained by the number of preparation and application stages involved. This kind of edition, limited to a single model year, mechanically creates its own value on the used market — something that cannot be said of special series with a gold sticker slapped on in ten minutes.

The downside lies in the total bill. At a base price of €16,595, the Speedmaster already positions itself above a well-equipped Indian Scout Bobber. Add the Stealth paint and you're approaching €17,400 — a sum that starts to seriously challenge the buyer. Direct competitors at this price offer more recent engines, sharper braking systems than the twin-piston front calipers on 310 mm discs, and sometimes more comprehensive electronic aids. Triumph is betting on identity, not on an exhaustive spec sheet. It's a coherent wager, but a deliberate one.

The Speedmaster Red Stealth speaks to a specific audience: the rider who knows customs, who has tried others, and who wants something more European in spirit without giving up the pleasure of a big, torquey twin. Not a beginner — the weight and rolling power delivery demand a certain level of experience. Not a long-distance tourer either — the 12-litre tank will quickly limit range on open roads. More of an enlightened urban rider who wants the motorcycle to be noticed without it looking like a neon sign. With this burgundy and black livery, Triumph has found the right balance between restraint and character. The irony of the "Stealth" name won't have been lost on anyone.
