Overview
Imagine California's Route 1, a cobalt blue sky, and a motorcycle rolling at a leisurely pace as if it had all eternity ahead of it. That's exactly the state of mind the Speedmaster has cultivated since joining the Triumph lineup. Not a sportbike, not an adventure tourer, not a tourer in the strict sense. A British cruiser that fully embraces its West Coast American heritage, without ever denying its Hinckley DNA.

The parallel twin with its 270-degree firing order deserves closer attention. This crank offset, borrowed from American V-twins in feel if not in geometry, produces an irregular rhythm that lends character to every twist of the throttle. The 106 Nm of torque arrives at 4,000 rpm, which in practice means riding through town in third gear without ever stressing the gearbox. The 78 horsepower is more than sufficient for a 263 kg machine: nobody buys a Speedmaster to ride fast, but to ride well. The claimed top speed of 180 km/h places the bike exactly where it belongs, somewhere between a Sunday ride and a bearable motorway stint, far from the pretensions of high-revving roadsters.
The 705 mm seat height offers reassuring ground clearance — a rarity among customs of this size. Against an Indian Scout, heavier still and more demanding to maintain, or a Honda CMX1100 Rebel playing the same neo-cruiser accessible game, the Speedmaster stands out through its finish and the coherence of its overall package. Standard cruise control, switchable traction control, two riding modes: Triumph doesn't cut corners on equipment, and at €16,795, the price tag stays within the bounds of the premium segment without reaching the heights of a Harley-Davidson Low Rider.
The 2025 Icon Edition adds a layer of visual distinction to an already well-rounded model. Unlike other variants in this annual collection, there are no gold pinstripes here. Triumph has opted for a dominant aluminum grey that brightens the lines, cut through by a sapphire black band across the tank. The brand's heritage logo, applied by hand by a decorator, completes the ensemble with a restraint that is easy to appreciate. These Icon, Stealth, Chrome and Gold Line collections only live for a season: this 2025 vintage won't return, giving the livery a limited-edition character without Triumph needing to shout it from the rooftops.
A few reservations are nonetheless in order. The digital instrument cluster lacks the retro charm found on the Thruxton or the Bonneville T120: on a motorcycle whose aesthetics are its primary selling point, this is a shortcoming that catches the eye at every red light. Passenger comfort is also relative, with a rear seat that longer distances will quickly put to the test. The 12-liter tank demands frequent stops if you push the pace. These are compromises inherent to the genre, but real compromises that a serious buyer must weigh before signing on the dotted line.
The Speedmaster Icon Edition speaks to a rider who knows what they want. Neither a beginner finding their feet, nor a track-day enthusiast chasing thrills: an experienced rider who wants a beautiful, well-equipped motorcycle with enough character to never bore on a back road. Triumph achieves here what few European manufacturers manage: producing a credible cruiser without imitating Detroit.
