Overview

Five hours of work for a tank. Not to assemble an engine, not to adjust a frame — just to dress this blood-red parallelepiped in a flow of chrome that cuts across its flank like a prestige scar. Triumph doesn't mess around with the Chrome edition of its Speedmaster 1200, and neither does the craftsman responsible for this finish. Polish, prime, sand, rework, check the final coat: half a workshop day for a component that some would dismiss as mere bodywork furniture. On a custom motorcycle, the tank is never just a fuel container. It's the centerpiece — the part that catches the light and the eye.

Triumph 1200 Speedmaster édition Chrome

Triumph understood this well when it launched the collection in 2023, and 2023 only. Since the era of the "Gold Line," the Hinckley marque has played the card of annual limited editions to maintain a calculated sense of rarity. Eight hundred euros separate this Chrome from the standard Speedmaster — the exact same differential as the previous collection. It's consistent, deliberate, and frankly honest as a positioning strategy. You pay for the visual singularity, and you know why. The rest of the motorcycle, meanwhile, doesn't change by a comma.

And that rest deserves attention. The 1,200 cc parallel twin, firing at 270-degree intervals to mimic the rhythm of a V-twin, delivers 78 horsepower at 6,100 rpm. Modest on paper compared to an Indian Scout Bobber or a Harley-Davidson Softail, but the torque tells a different story: 105.9 Nm available from 4,000 rpm. The thrust settles in at the bottom of the rev range, broad and direct, without needing to work the six-speed gearbox any more than necessary. For a machine weighing 263 kg fully loaded, that's exactly what's called for; you don't ask a cruiser to play the sports bike, you ask it to ride with authority and not wear you out in the city.

The 705 mm seat height makes the bike approachable for a wide range of riders, including those of medium stature who struggle with tall machines. The wide handlebar places the shoulders in a position of relaxed dominance, the 47 mm Showa fork absorbs imperfections without harshness, and the electronics package means business: two riding modes, traction control, cruise control, ABS, full LED lighting, and ride-by-wire throttle. Triumph brings a distinctly European precision to the dynamic management of a motorcycle with an American aesthetic — and that's precisely where the Speedmaster distances itself from several of its direct rivals, which are often more frugal with active technologies in this price segment.

The question of overall positioning remains. At €16,045, this Chrome speaks to a mature buyer: little concerned with outright performance, highly attentive to stylistic coherence, and willing to pay to own something their neighbor won't have next year. This is not a motorcycle for the track-day enthusiast, nor for the adventure rider looking to devour kilometres loaded like a pack mule. It's a motorcycle for the rider who heads out on Sunday mornings with coffee on the horizon, who wants their machine to say something without having to open their mouth. The 2023 Triumph Speedmaster Chrome does exactly that, with a conviction and a finish that justify, give or take, the price of admission.
