Overview

Do you remember the era when roadsters were behemoths, screaming four-cylinder engines with over 100 horsepower? Suzuki, in 1999, made the opposite bet with the first SV 650: a 90° V-twin, lightweight, lively, and terribly accessible. Facing the overpowered Hornet and Fazer models, it seduced with its character and price. But in 2003, Hamamatsu decided to dress it up. Suzuki SVS 650

The heart remains that famous 645 cm³ twin, but it evolves. Double butterfly injection, inherited from the GSX-R 1000, refines the responses. Power climbs to 74 horsepower at 9000 rpm, the torque of 63.7 Nm arrives early and remains generous. It's not a traction monster, but its pull is impressive for a V-twin. From 3000 rpm, it pulls without complaining, then truly blossoms from 7000 rpm. This gain in refinement comes at a price, a little. The new frame and the Suzuki SVS 650 fairing weigh down the scale to 196 kg fully fueled. At low speed, it is less agile than the naked SV. But once launched, everything balances out. The 41 mm fork has been reworked, gaining stability on bumps, and the chassis inspires immediate confidence. It leans with exemplary neutrality, aided by more efficient tires. The braking, with its two 290 mm front discs, is honest without being sporty. It is a machine that encourages you to play, without ever becoming demanding.

So, for whom? The beginner may seek a standard SV 650, lighter and less expensive. But the touring rider who wants a little protection, or the aspiring track rider in search of a healthy base, will find in the SVS 650 2003 a choice ally. Its 16-liter tank and 800 mm seat make it a compact and efficient touring machine. Today, looking for a used Suzuki SVS 650 is an excellent calculation. Models from 2004 to 2007 offer the same package for a few thousand euros. Opinions on the Suzuki SVS 650 1999 or 2004 converge: it is a reliable, economical, and fun motorcycle. Its drawback? Sometimes high fuel consumption for a twin, and a very spartan passenger seat. But if you want the character of a V-twin in a sporty suit, without the mechanical hassles or the price of an Italian bike, the answer is often there, in the classified ads.
